Old homes next to the Lafayette River
Bordered by Church Street and Lafayette Drive, the small Lindenwood neighborhood is known for its architecture and scenery. The area is primarily residential and full of homes over 100 years old next to brand new residences. Lindenwood Elementary School serves the community and is close to many houses. Locals agree that the main draw to the neighborhood is that it “is close to Ghent and downtown, so it is also close to the action,” says Joe Ruzzi, an associate broker with Greentree Realty who has served the area for over 10 years.
New and old Norfolk cottages
In Lindenwood, Coastal and Craftsman cottages from the early and mid-20th century sit alongside more modern bungalows and cottages. “Lots of places are being replaced or rehabilitated,” says Ruzzi, mainly because “some homes were built as early as the 1800s.” Home prices range from $140,000 for a two-bedroom house to $270,000 for a newer four-bedroom. Established trees, from towering magnolias to pink crape myrtles, line the sidewalks at the heart of the community and shade many local homes.
