Norview Heights
Mix of older and newer working-class homes
Established trees provide a natural screen between the busy corner and the residential side streets fanning from it. Wide streets with sidewalks are lined with evenly spaced minimal-traditional style homes. The small, square homes feature low-pitched roofs and front stoops, often covered with a projecting gable or aluminum awning. Many of the older homes in Norview Heights have been updated over the years with “pop-up” or “nose” additions, giving the originally modest floorplans some extra square footage with a new second story or expanded front living space. Instead of bothering to add onto their existing home, some residents have simply demolished the old structures and rebuilt their homes from scratch. You’ll see these larger new constructions scattered throughout the neighborhood. Though bigger than the original Norview Heights homes, the new builds maintain the aesthetic of the community with their gable roofs and neutral, yet beachy color palettes. Homes here tend to stay on the market for about three weeks and typically sell for between $150,000 to $300,000.Elementary, middle and high schools within walking distance
Norfolk City Public Schools serves the neighborhood’s students. Kids may start at Norview Elementary School, which gets a C-minus grade from Niche, before transitioning to Norview Middle School, which also has a C-minus. Students may then attend Norview High School, which has a B rating and serves as the science and engineering magnet program for the school district.Norfolk Botanical Garden and a community center are nearby
Though there are no outdoor parks within the neighborhood, the Norfolk Botanical Garden, Virginia’s largest, is just three miles away. Just east of the neighborhood is Wayne Creek, a popular fishing spot, which has several boat launches nearby. The Norview Community Center is a large indoor recreation facility nearby. The center offers basketball courts, a gym and tech rooms.Retailers, Norfolk Premium Outlets and local restaurants
Family Dollar on Chesapeake Boulevard is the closest grocery store to the neighborhood. There’s also a Lidl and Food Lion located one mile east. The Norfolk Premium Outlets are three miles east of Norview and offer a variety of niche retailers and boutiques. There are also popular local restaurants nearby, like Yendidi for authentic West African cuisine and Plate Me Please for fresh and locally sourced seafood.
Close to I-64, Norfolk International Airport and bus stops
Norview Heights is mostly car-dependent with Interstate-64 close to the neighborhood homes. Downtown Norfolk is five miles south and takes about 30 minutes by car. The community also has several public bus stops along Chesapeake Boulevard and Sewells Point Road. Norfolk International Airport, the largest in Hampton Roads, is located two miles east. Because of Norview’s proximity to the interstate and the airport, there may be some additional ambient noise.
