Just outside downtown Norfolk and close to the beach
Oakmont is a small neighborhood off Little Creek Road and located just 5 miles north of downtown Norfolk. The community offers quick access to retailers and major roadways to get around the rest of the city. “You’re close to the beach without having a lot of tourists in the summer,” says D'Alfred Shaw, a Realtor for Swell Real Estate Co, who’s been selling homes in the area for several years.
Quaint ranches and modern styles
The neighborhood is made up mostly of rentable apartments and townhomes, but there are also just over 50 single-family homes as well. Quaint ranches from the mid-20th century are the most common style here. Homes are congregated into cul-de-sacs with streetlights and sidewalks lining the road. Driveways and street parking are available for vehicles, and some homes feature covered awnings over part of its driveway. Because of the neighborhood’s small size, homes do not go on the market here often. Houses in Oakmont typically sell for between $200,000 to $300,000.

Quick access to HWY 64 from Oakmont.
Close to Interstate 64 and Norfolk International
Oakmont is mostly car-dependent, and Interstate 64 is just south of the neighborhood homes. Downtown Norfolk is 5 miles south, about 30 minutes by car, and Naval Station Norfolk is just 3 miles west, or around 10 minutes driving on I-64. Norfolk International Airport is the largest in Hampton Roads and is just 2 miles east. Because of Oakmont’s proximity to the interstate and the airport, there may be some additional ambient noise. There are also several public bus stops along Chesapeake Boulevard with daily service to the rest of the city. “Norfolk has a great transportation system,” says Shaw.
