Villa Heights is a small community on the banks of the Lafayette River, which attracts those who love outdoor recreation. Virginia Beach is a popular waterfront location also just 20 miles away. The neighborhood is just 2 miles from downtown Norfolk, making it a draw for commuters. Norfolk has major employers such as Old Dominion University and the Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. “Norfolk also has a large military base, which attracts military families,” says Tripp Howerin, a Realtor with Howard Hanna Real Estate Services who has lived in the Hampton Roads area his entire life. “I’d say the majority of my sales have been military families.”

The local YMCA is located on Granby Street, where organized sports are played. Lafayette Park is a popular destination for athletes, offering a baseball field, tennis and basketball court, and a disc golf course. The park also has a small playground and many pavilions for picnics and barbecues. Lafayette Park is adjacent to the Virginia Zoo, which has over 700 animals to see, from turtles to tigers. Residents can tour the Lafayette River through kayaking offered by the zoo. Activities such as boating and fishing are also done on the river. Sewells Point Golf Course is 4 miles away and has an 18-hole course.

The Fishin’ Pig Norfolk is a well-known barbecue spot, where locals can enjoy a beer while watching sports. Residents visit Union Taco for Mexican cuisine. Stripers Waterside is in downtown Norfolk, offering fresh seafood on the Elizabeth River. Music festivals on the beach
Residents visit Downtown Norfolk for shows at the Harrison Opera House and exhibitions at the Chrysler Museum of Art. The area holds an annual NEON festival in October; The acronym stands for New Energy of Norfolk. Virginia Beach is roughly 25 minutes away and hosts an annual music festival called Something in the Water in April.
