Mountain gateway town with big city proximity

Set 30 miles east of Seattle in the Cascade Mountain foothills, North Bend is globally recognized as a filming location for the 1990s TV series "Twin Peaks," but locals like Debi Hill — a real estate agent with TEC Real Estate Inc. – shrug off the pop-culture hype. “People love this city for the trails, forests and ski slopes 20 minutes away," says Hills. "We’re used to things being filmed here because the natural beauty is one-of-a-kind.” The Snoqualmie River rushes past rocky banks here, framed by the towering peak of Mount Si.

Strict water supply rules limit new construction here, sparking discussions about balancing progress with environmental preservation; this struggle highlights North Bend’s core appeal – a community rooted in its untamed surroundings. The largest area employers include Nintendo—which operates its primary U.S. distribution center here—the United States Postal Service and the North Bend Premium Outlets.

Riverfront homes and area-affordable townhomes

The median home sale price in North Bend is around $820,000, slightly lower than Seattle’s $850,000. Popular neighborhoods include Si View and Cedar Village, where a mix of 1970s contemporary, Craftsman-style and ranch-style (or rambler, as they're known in the Pacific Northwest) homes are set around cul-de-sacs near the South Fork Snoqualmie River, and shaded by mature pines. Prices for these homes range from $850,000 to $1.5 million; custom-built mid-century properties set closest to the river command the highest prices. Newly built apartment-style condos and townhouses near the Middle Fork Snoqualmie River are also available, with prices typically ranging between $600,000 and $800,000.

A downtown diner with a cult following

Historic downtown North Bend is full of early-20th-century storefronts that house bars, coffee shops and restaurants. One standout stop is Twede’s Cafe, a 1941 diner immortalized by "Twin Peaks" character Special Agent Dale Cooper, who loved its “damn fine cup o’ coffee” and cherry pie. The district’s brick-lined streets also host locally owned boutiques and artisan shops, while across the Snoqualmie River, North Bend Premium Outlets highlights discounted luxury brands.

Collaborating on crime rates

Between 2022 and 2024, the North Bend Police Department reported lower rates of both violent and property crime than national and state averages. In early 2024, the department achieved full staffing for the first time in four years, ensuring that at least two officers would be on duty all times.
