Privacy on big lots in North Centre
North Centre, a farming community just north of Bloomsburg, offers privacy with large lot sizes and little throughways. Part of Columbia County, this area was separated from Northumberland County back in 1813. While mining was a big industry for Pennsylvania throughout the 1800s and 1900s, the county’s agriculture industry has also supported the region from its founding to the present day. Alongside the town’s peaceful way of life, it also provides access to the highly rated Columbia County School District and major highways just a few miles away.
Traditional home styles starting in the $250,000s
There are some national-style homes from the early-1900s, but most properties were built between 1950 and 2000 with ranch-style and colonial designs. Homes along main thoroughfares like Fowlersville Road may be placed closer together and have smaller lots, but houses along the town’s backroads can have between one to 10 acres of land. Homes tend to sell after just an average of 23 days on the market and typically sell for $250,000 to $500,000.
Highly rated public schools
Students may start at Central Columbia Elementary, which teaches kindergarten through fourth grade and gets an A-minus from Niche, before going to Central Columbia Middle, which teaches fifth to eighth grade and earns an A. Central Columbia Senior High also receives an A-minus and offers vocational and technical education programs in fields like engineering and agricultural operations.
Commuting via Route 93, I-80
Commuters can take Route 93 just 9 miles east to connect with U.S. Route 11. Route 11 connects to Interstate 80, which runs an additional 140 miles east to New York City. Geisinger Bloomsburg Hospital is located 7 miles south. The closest airport, Wilkes-Barre Scranton International, is 50 miles north.
Hiking, horseback riding and dirt tracks
Just north of town, State Game Lands Number 55 provides hiking, hunting and horseback riding opportunities. Just 5 miles east, locals head to the Evansville MX Park to ride dirt bikes and all-terrain vehicles through its twisty courses. Kocher Park is 5 miles south with a playground, picnic area and a trail dotted with nature-themed art pieces. The Keystone Horse Center is also 5 miles south with indoor and outdoor facilities.
Shopping and dining along Route 93
Along State Route 93, Ezzyk's Farm Fresh is a small market selling local produce. Residents can continue driving 8 miles east on 93 to Berwick for GIANT, Aldi and Weis Markets. The borough also has chain eateries and popular locally owned options like May’s Drive In, which has been serving American favorites since their first location opened in Bloomsburg back in 1956. Bloomsburg is also just 10 miles south with more shopping and dining options along Columbia Boulevard.
Important to Know
In March 2025, the Department of Environmental Protection announced it was investigating one of North Centre Township’s groundwater plumes in accordance with the Hazardous Sites Cleanup Act. In June, results showed that groundwater in the vicinity of Ridge Road is contaminated with PFAS chemicals, also known as “forever chemicals.” Residents in these affected areas are currently being provided bottled water until the issue is resolved. As of June 2025, there is currently no clear timeline of when it will be remedied.
