Lewis Glenn's access to Waukegan and the naval base
Situated between Waukegan and the Great Lakes Naval Training Center, Lewis Glenn offers quiet, residential streets just a few miles from Lake Michigan’s shores. With only three residential villages on the base, housing is limited, creating demand beyond its gates. “Years ago, most people were living on the base,” says broker Lynette Banner with New Beginnings Realty. “But the base got rid of a lot of the housing, so a lot of military people are living in North Chicago or Waukegan instead.” Just a few miles south of downtown Waukegan, Lewis Glenn is close to vintage Main Street-style shopping and dining. AbbVie, a major biomedical company based in North Chicago, also has a pharmaceutical factory near the military base, employing neighbors throughout the community.
Cape Cods and bungalows on open lawns
Cape Cods, bungalows and ranch-style homes sit alongside duplexes in Lewis Glenn on open front lawns with minimal landscaping. A mix of young saplings and mature trees line the sidewalks, with the occasional streetlamp offering light in the evenings. In the spring, yellow dandelions dot the front lawns, adding a pop of color. Homes typically sell between $150,000 and $300,000, with duplexes offering both units representing the larger end of the pricing spectrum.
