Residential city streets with competitive prices and U.S. Route 422 access
On the eastern outskirts of Downtown Lebanon lies one of the city’s smallest neighborhoods: Hebron, a collection of residential city blocks, retail centers and healthcare facilities. “It’s a good area for someone who wants the city feel without really being in the middle of it,” says Stephanie Butler, a Lebanon native and Realtor with Suburban Realty. “Being in Lebanon means being near some very good restaurants and things while still having access to the rest of the region along U.S. Route 422.” While the neighborhood is a mix of commercial and residential blocks, Hebron has both urban city blocks and more suburban streets, allowing for a diverse range of homes at competitive price points.
From urban townhouses to suburban cottages
The gridded city blocks of Hebron vary from the northern side of U.S. Route 422 to the south. To the north, the narrow one-way streets are flanked by duplexes and narrow two-story cottages in Italianate and Victorian styles, framed by sidewalks and street parking. To the south, there’s a bit more room to breathe, with more single-family homes with grassy lawns and driveways leading to detached garages. Single-story cottages, ranch-style homes and Cape Cods are more common here. While townhouses and duplexes tend to be priced in the $100,000 to $185,000 range, detached single-family homes sell at a slightly higher price point of $135,000 to $220,000. Slightly more than half of residents in Hebron own their homes.
Although not the norm, some townhomes can be found in Hebron such as these made of brick.
It’s hard to miss this Victorian-style house sitting on a corner of Walnut street on any drive through Hebron.

Dine in Downtown Lebanon and shop along Route 422
Hebron is close to well-known Downtown Lebanon restaurants such as the Lebanon Gin Mill, which began in the 1930s as a beloved hangout for local steel mill workers. Today, its interior keeps the retro vibe alive with wall-to-wall vintage beer signs. Additional eateries and a slew of locally owned shops can be found farther along Cumberland Street. East of the neighborhood’s residential blocks is a stretch of shopping centers and fast food chains that extends along U.S. Route 422. Dunham’s Sports, the Home Depot, Giant and Walmart Supercenter are just a few of the big-box stores in and around the neighborhood, with a handful of local businesses sandwiched in between the strip malls. The southern section of the neighborhood consists of nursing and retirement homes as well as the Lebanon County Correctional Facility.

Much of Hebron comprises gridded streets, making it somewhat walkable and bikeable. Lebanon Transit buses stop at the Home Depot and on 5th Avenue, providing transportation to Downtown Lebanon, WellSpan Hospital and Weis Markets, all of which are within 2 miles of the neighborhood. The nearest international airport is 35 miles west in Harrisburg, while Philadelphia is about 90 miles east. “You have really good proximity to employment, being along the major thoroughfares,” says Butler, referring to U.S. Route 422, which runs through the neighborhood. “Lots of people commute. Plus, there’s just a lot to explore in the rest of Lebanon County.”
