North Cornwall
From condos to estates, with established neighborhoods in between
Spanning from the edges of the city to the rural farmland beyond, North Cornwall’s housing runs the gamut from condos to multi-acre estates. However, single-family homes with over 2,000 square feet are the most common housing, clustering together in neat subdivisions on the outskirts of Lebanon. “About 90 percent of the farm fields around Lebanon are owned by farmers, but every few years one or two will get bought up and turned into a new subdivision,” says Joshua Johnson, a Realtor with Iron Valley Real Estate. Some of this area’s oldest cottages and ranch-style homes were built between the 1940s and ‘60s, and list at a starting price of $200,000. Spacious new construction and New Traditional houses in tree-lined subdivisions peak at roughly $700,000, while homes with acreage can push prices above the $1 million mark. Recently built townhouses list between $250,000 and $300,000, while luxury condos ask for $370,000 to $700,000.Cedar Crest Middle and High receive new upgrades
North Cornwall is part of the Cornwall-Lebanon School District. Cornwall Elementary scores a B-plus from Niche, while Cedar Crest Middle and Cedar Crest High both earn B grades. The Cedar Crest campus, which houses the middle and high school in addition to the district’s office, is undergoing renovations to add more classrooms and update the existing buildings. The new Falcon Connector building is expected to be completed by summer 2025 and will provide flex classroom space during the other campus renovations.
Outdoor recreation at South Hills and Southwest parks
South Hills Park is one of the busiest area’s for outdoor recreation, and it’s right outside of the neighborhood. Paved walking or biking paths wind throughout the park’s sprawling green space, connecting to pavilions, tennis courts, basketball courts and a playground with a mini rock-climbing wall. The 18-hole disc golf course has different baskets for beginners and advanced players alike. While the park’s amenities are open from spring to fall, the playgrounds are accessible year-round. Optimist Memorial Park Southwest, locally known as Southwest Park, is also just north of the neighborhood and has a playground and sports courts, with a new splash pad currently in development. Some subdivisions in North Cornwall have their own community playgrounds or pools, such as the Villages of Creekside. For some real thrills, folks head to the Lebanon Valley Expo Center & Fairgrounds for the Lebanon Area Fair. This week-long annual event promises plenty of fried food, high-flying carnival rides and farm exhibitions.Golf courses in the Lebanon Valley
The gentle, sloping hills of the Lebanon Valley provide an ideal landscape for golf courses, with multiple in the rural outer areas of North Cornwall. Lebanon Country Club is a private, members-only club with a pool, tennis courts and social clubs in addition to its 18-hole course. The club is also certified by the Audubon Society for its wildlife and habitat conservation, which includes wildlife corridors visible from certain holes. Royal Oaks Golf Club is a nearby public alternative, where golfers can book a tee time on the 18-hole course or request lessons in the practice facility. Fairview Golf Course is another option just south of the neighborhood in Cornwall and has been a favorite public course in the area since the 1950s.Shopping centers and chain stores on Quentin Road
Quentin Road is the Lebanon area’s shopping corridor, and it’s centrally located for many North Cornwall residents. Weis Markets, Giant and Target are among the area’s grocers, while the Lebanon Plaza shopping center is a one-stop-shop for pet supplies, clothing and home improvement needs. Though there are plenty of chain restaurants around, there are also a handful of local eateries. Mill 72 Bake Shop & Café is known for its sugary confections and lattes served in a bright, modern coffeehouse, while Bruno’s Hoagies is a go-to local sandwich chain. Infinito’s also has locations across central Pennsylvania and is known for its buffet-style pizza and pasta. Pho Yummy is right next door and serves up hearty broths and other Vietnamese fare in a cozy interior complete with a faux bamboo hut and tree.Between U.S. Highway 422 and Interstate 76
This car-dependent suburb is roughly 2 to 5 miles from downtown Lebanon. Harrisburg, home to the Pennsylvania State Capitol and Harrisburg International Airport, is about 25 to 30 miles west on U.S. Highway 422, while Philadelphia is 85 to 90 miles east. “The turnpike is also just about 10 minutes south, and from there you can get anywhere,” says Hains, referring to Interstate 76. The Lebanon VA Medical Center is just beyond the neighborhood next to South Hills Park. Public transit is hard to come by here, though there are a few Lebanon Transit bus stops along Quentin Road.
