A handful of green spaces are a quick drive from Sagamore Hills, offering outdoor recreation. “If you want to be active, you can. A lot of people will walk around the neighborhood,” Ruehle says. Frazier-Rowe Park has a log-themed playground, a picnic pavilion and a garden area where visitors can admire fresh blooms and pick a book from the little library. Multiple walking trails weave through the woodlands, with bridges that cross over streams. Carey Hansard Memorial Park is a large open field for play, dotted with mature trees. About 3 miles from the neighborhood is the Elwyn John Wildlife Sanctuary. An open meadow for picnicking serves as an entrance, followed by a forest conservation area with walking trails and viewing platforms. The Sagamore Community Club is a membership-based group with tennis courts and an outdoor saltwater pool, right in the neighborhood. Sagamore Hills is served by the Dekalb School District. Children can either attend Oak Grove Elementary, which earns an A-minus grade from Niche, or Sagamore Hills Elementary, which has a B-plus and is STEM-certified by the Georgia Department of Education. From there, students head to the B-minus rated Henderson Middle School. Most residents in Sagamore Hills use a vehicle to get around. “A lot of the neighborhoods over there are connected, so in Sagamore Hills you can get to Oak Grove or Briarcliff,” Ruehle says. Commuters can access U.S. Route 23, known as Clairmont Road, directly west of the neighborhood and take it south to Decatur. Interstate 85 is a mile north and can be used to reach downtown Atlanta, about 11 miles away. There’s also the MARTA bus service, with stops along Lavista and Clairmont roads.Dekalb-Peachtree Airport is about 4 miles north for general aviation services and job opportunities. While the neighborhood is primarily residential, multiple options for shopping and dining are close by. The Briarcliff Shopping Center has a handful of small businesses, from dry cleaning to urgent care. Across the street, Bahel Ethiopian Restaurant serves authentic cuisine. The Druid Hills Farmers Market is located along Briarcliff Road and sells local produce, food products and artisan work every Saturday morning. Vista Grove shopping center is also near the neighborhood, with local restaurants like Fellini’s Pizza, with its Sicilian-inspired slices and outdoor patio. Central North Druid Hills is about 2 miles from Sagamore Hills and has multiple commercial shopping centers with retailers and big-box stores. Grocers in the area include Kroger, Publix and The Spicy Peach, which specializes in Kosher food. Northlake Mall is roughly 4 miles away.
