A Massachusetts mill town
With its legacy manufacturing companies, turn-of-the-century brick mill housing and a nearly 150-year-old regional railroad that’s still in operation, the Worcester, Massachusetts suburb of North Grafton was a bastion of the early American Industrial Revolution. Today, North Grafton has the hallmarks of a typical Northeastern suburb, with tree-shaded side-streets being home to large, ranch-style and colonial houses, an abundance of restaurants and local businesses expressing local creativity and students benefiting from top-quality public schools.
Living outside Worcester
In this semi-rural community, located about 7 miles southeast of downtown Worcester, Grafton’s industrial roots are still very present today. Longtime production centers, like abrasives maker Washington Mills, sit just around the corner from cozy homes built in Cape Cod, colonial and ranch styles. These factories and houses relate Grafton’s long history as a milling town, which dates to the 1820s. Two hundred years later, North Grafton is even more desirable; homes tend to sell for between $400,000 and $1 million, reflecting the variety of housing styles, sizes and dates of construction.
Some homes in North Grafton have nice wide porches that run along the entire front of the house.
