North Lindenhurst, an industrial and residential community

One of the 10 hamlets within the Town of Babylon in Suffolk County, North Lindenhurst, also known as North Lindy, is a residential and industrial area 43 miles from New York City. “North Lindenhurst is a desirable neighborhood because it’s in Suffolk County but close to the border of Nassau County, where property taxes are higher,” says Deloar Khan, a Long Island real estate agent and team leader at AVS Realty. “So, if you want to live on Long Island but get as close to Manhattan as possible without crossing into Nassau, North Lindenhurst is a good compromise.” North Lindenhurst also offers a lower price point than its bayside neighbor, Lindenhurst, despite sharing a school district and community events.

North Lindenhurst benefited from the housing boom after World War II, and popular housing styles of that time are still seen today. Much of North Lindenhurst’s past is carried into its present, with industrial buildings still operating within Babylon’s New Horizons Business Center, an industrial park since the 1980s. For those not working in the business center, North Lindenhurst is no more than 5 miles away from several Long Island Rail Road train stations. While Lindenhurst is a small community with an ever-increasing population of 11,155 as of 2022, according to the U.S. Census Bureau, it is attractive due to its housing prices and accessibility to public transit and amenities.
