The northernmost city in Cache County, Utah
Located about 18 miles south of the Idaho border, North Logan is a commuter town popular with people who work at Utah State University. It’s surrounded by mountains, giving residents easy access to plenty of hiking trails; most of the community’s 12,000 people either attend or work at Utah State, located a mile south. “I think the biggest draw is that it’s a very family-friendly area, evident in the number of schools and large household size,” says Scott Perkes, City Planner and Community Development Director of North Logan. “North Logan is a bedroom community for Utah State University. The university provides a large job base.” The city is also just a few miles from Logan and its downtown district, a walkable area with many restaurants, parks and businesses. “Most folks work in the region,” Perkes says. “My commute to work is about 20 minutes; that’s about as far as some people normally would commute.” Cache County’s major employers are Utah State University, the county’s school district and Intermountain Health Care, according to Utah’s Department of Workforce Services. The city’s median household income is $84,000, compared to $80,000 nationally.

Elk Ridge Park is North Logan’s largest green space, and it sits in the city center. The park includes a playground, splash pad, volleyball and tennis courts and a disc golf course. In October, it hosts the annual North Logan Pumpkin Walk. “The Pumpkin Walk draws over 60,000 visitors every year, and it’s basically a festival for pumpkin displays and exhibits,” Perkes says. “There’s carvings and all sorts of creative scenes.” Mountain View Park is known for its grassy field, where people throw frisbees and fly kites. Bonneville Shoreline Trailhead is one of the many popular hiking trails in North Logan. “We have a lot of park space available to the public,” Perkes says. “There’s endless outdoor recreation if you like to hike, bike or ride ATVs, all within close proximity.” Hansen Family Sports Complex is the city’s indoor recreation spot; next door is the George S. Eccles Ice Center. The Logan Country Club has a private, 18-hole course about 3 miles away.
