Crescent Beach
Outdoor fun beyond the beach
Residents are within walking distance or a quick golf cart ride from white sand beaches, and there’s much more recreation nearby. Vacationers and locals can tee off at Azalea Sands Golf Club or try their hand at pickleball at Central Park. Central Park also has basketball courts, baseball fields, batting cages and tennis courts. The Intracoastal Waterway winds behind the neighborhood. Access points to the waterway throughout North Myrtle Beach offer opportunities for activities including boating, fishing and jet skiing.O.D. Pavilion has beachside businesses
The Ocean Drive Pavilion, located along Main Street about a mile east of Crescent Beach, has restaurants, bars and shops. Locals and visitors can grab a bite and play games at the OD Arcade & Lounge or enjoy a decadent waffle cone at Melt. The O.D. Pavilion also honors its history as the birthplace of shag, now South Carolina’s state dance – with the Shaggers Hall of Fame Museum, shag bars like Fat Herold’s Beach Club, and SOS, a dance festival spanning 10 days twice a year at several beach clubs on the pavilion. “All kinds of stuff happens on Main Street. Pretty much every week there’s a music festival there,” Nash says. Kroger and Walmart sell groceries about 2 miles east of the neighborhood, and Barefoot Landing has more shopping and entertainment about 3 miles west.High-rise condos on the water and coastal cottages set back
Two-bedroom condo units on the water usually sell for between $250,000 and $530,000. Gridded streets stretch out for several blocks behind the beach and have single-family homes and townhouses. Many of these properties were built in the second half of the 20th century and include modest ranch-style houses and coastal cottages. Other homes include newly constructed cottages with two-car garages in the 55-plus community near Azalea Sands Golf Club. Smaller houses typically sell for between $360,000 and $600,000, though some larger, luxury homes can sell for $1 million or more.Horry County Schools serve North Myrtle Beach
Neighborhood students can attend Ocean Drive Elementary School, which earns an A from Niche. Students typically continue to A-minus-rated North Myrtle Beach Middle School and B-plus-rated North Myrtle Beach High School. The high school offers clubs for many interests including robotics, engineering and mock trial.Slightly higher elevation reduces Crescent Beach’s flood risk
Much of North Myrtle Beach is in a flood zone, but Nash says Crescent Beach and Windy Hill are on higher ground, so there are more properties not in a required flood zone. This means flood insurance, which typically costs several thousand dollars annually, is not required for most properties in Crescent Beach.Traveling from Crescent Beach on Route 17
U.S. Route 17 goes through the area and takes drivers to Myrtle Beach, about 15 miles away, and to the North Carolina border, 10 miles away. Myrtle Beach International Airport is also off Route 17. Nearby medical care facilities include McLeod Seacoast Hospital and the North Strand Emergency Room. Coast Regional Transit Authority serves some fixed bus routes between North Myrtle Beach and Myrtle Beach.
