Woodville
A mix of 20th-century homes
In addition to sections of townhomes and condos, ranch-style homes, Colonial Revivals and angular Contemporary homes line most of Woodville’s quiet residential streets. Prices for single-family homes start at around $345,000 and can go up to nearly $800,000, while condo units and townhomes tend to sell for between $159,000 and $429,000. According to Ralph Buontempo, a local Re/Max Preferred Realtor with nearly 10 years of experience, Woodville is a seller’s market. “Even though interest rates are up, inventory is low,” Buontempo says, adding that lack of inventory means homes tend to sell quickly. About a week faster than the national average, in fact. Most homes sell after 37 days on the market compared to the national average of 44.Governor John Notte Memorial Park and Louisquisset Golf Club offer outdoor recreation
Governor John Notte Memorial Park anchors the northwest side of the community, surrounding the Wenscott Reservoir. “It’s got a beach, parks, fields. It draws a lot of people from around town,” Mandeville says of the expansive park. Twin Rivers Beach is on the south end of the reservoir. Lifeguards are stationed at the freshwater beach in the summer, beginning in July each year. Paddleboat rentals are available, too. There’s also a web of paved, multi-use paths through the park, winding around the tennis courts, ball field and playground. The 9-hole course at Louisquisset Golf Club is on Woodville’s northeast side. Tee times are open to the public seven days a week. In the clubhouse, the Pub on One restaurant serves internationally inspired American fare, from spicy Asian shrimp and barbecue chicken quesadillas to classic cheeseburgers.Shopping and dining along Mineral Spring Avenue
For groceries, there’s a Shaw’s about 1 ½ miles south of Woodville. There’s also a Shore’s Fresh Food Market even closer, off Mineral Spring Avenue. “That’s where all the shopping and dining are,” Mandeville says of the nearby main road, which is also home to a Lowe’s Home Improvement and Pet Supplies Plus. Ashur Café, established in 2022 by an Iraqi refugee, is a Middle Eastern/European-style café known for its sweet and savory crepes. Down the street, Jacky’s Galaxie & Sushi Bar is an upscale Asian eatery. For special occasions, Buontempo says locals head north to Laura’s Bar & Grill, off Douglas Pike, about 5 miles away. He recommends it’s best to make a reservation, though. “It’s a big-time favorite. You can’t even get in there!”North Providence Public Schools, two colleges nearby
Schools in the North Providence Public Schools system serve Woodville students. Many go to either Olney Elementary or Whelan Elementary between preschool and fifth grade. Olney receives a C-plus from Niche, while Whelan gets a B-minus. Older students can continue to Birchwood Middle, which earns a B-plus, and North Providence High, which gets a B. The high school offers 16 AP courses in subjects ranging from chemistry to literature. In their last year at North Providence High, students must complete a Senior Project, which involves at least 8 hours of independent work with a mentor in their chosen field. All four schools are within 1 ½ miles of most Woodville homes, which Buontempo says contributes to the neighborhood’s “very family-oriented” vibe.Providence College is about 2 ½ miles southeast of Woodville. The private, Catholic college offers a variety of undergraduate, graduate and certificate programs across four schools: Arts & Sciences, Business, Education & Social Work, Nursing & Health Sciences. Rhode Island College is about 3 miles southwest of the neighborhood. Established in 1854 as the Rhode Island Normal School, RIC was the state's first public institution of higher education. Today, RIC has more than 55 undergraduate and 25 graduate programs.
Quick drives north to I-295 and south to Providence
“The thing about this area is that it’s centrally located. Mineral Spring Avenue takes you all the way from Johnston to Pawtucket,” Buontempo says. The main road runs east-west along the south side of Woodville. Heading east, it connects to the Eddie Dowling Highway, which runs north toward Interstate 295 and south toward Providence. I-295 is just 7 ½ miles north, past Lincoln, while Providence is about 6 miles southeast. Mineral Spring Avenue is also lined with Rhode Island Public Transit Authority bus stops, providing regional service.
