Spring Hill
Suburban Neighborhood in Norwalk, Connecticut
Fairfield County 06850, 06854
Small Cape Cods along pocket streets
In Spring Hill, ranch-style homes and Cape Cods are set on cozy lots with hedge-lined driveways. Winding neighborhood roads lead to colonial and minimal traditional-style properties constructed in the 1950s, as well as townhouse buildings with wood siding and attractive landscaping. “The quaint pocket of streets in Spring Hill presents a family feel to it,” says Clarke, who was born and raised in Norwalk. “The community is close-knit, and children run and play on the streets without parents worrying about traffic.” The median price for real estate is $432,000, and homebuyers can expect to pay an average of $353 per square foot.
Waterside community with bustling parks
Canopies of 150-year-old oak trees in Spring Hill’s green space near Magnolia Street and Grandview Avenue offer shade for a picnic or walking canine companions. Folks head to Norwalk River Valley Trail to stretch their legs while soaking up riverside views. Stretching 38 miles, the multi-use trail expands from Norwalk to Danbury and connects through Mathews Park in Downtown Norwalk. The recreational area boasts a playground, maintained gardens and two museums: the Stepping Stones Museum for Children and the Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum. Clarke also notes that Veteran’s Memorial Park is a destination for recreation, with its newly renovated playground and marina for waterside access.Education at Norwalk Public Schools
Spring Hill is part of the Norwalk Public Schools system. The neighborhood’s kindergarten through fifth grade students may attend Kendall Elementary School, also known as the Kendall College and Career Academy. Here, they can participate in Kidz Talk!, a student-run talk show that allows them to share their experiences and discuss topics important to them. Sixth through eighth graders may attend Ponus Ridge Middle School before advancing to Norwalk High School. Kendall Elementary and Ponus Ridge Middle both earn a C-plus overall rating from Niche, while Norwalk High scores a B-plus.Norwalk’s Annual Oyster Festival
The city’s residents gather annually for the Norwalk Oyster Festival. With a myriad of activities, the festival boasts three days of local vendors, food and free entertainment. Held at Veteran’s Memorial Park, the festival is going on its 46th year. “The oyster fest is like a hybrid of a farmers market and craft fair,” Clarke says. “Plus, big-name performances, kids rides, local breweries and really good food.” Across Route 7, a cluster of churches ranging from many denominations also hosts community events.
Interstate 95, Merritt Parkway and beyond
US Route 1 and Interstate 95 to its south and US Route 7 on its eastern side allow residents to easily travel in and outside of Spring Hill. Commuters may hop on a bus at the several stops in the area or take the train at South Norwalk, which connects to Danbury, New Haven and Grand Central Station in Manhattan. Travelers can also catch domestic flights at Westchester County Airport, 25 minutes away. “Norwalk as a whole has the benefit of everything,” Clarke says. “With access to the waterfront and Manhattan only 45 minutes away, you can get a city feel or a woodsy feel away from the city center.”Convenience to SoNo Collection and restaurants
“With Spring Hill’s convenience comes shopping, too,” Clarke says. “Mom-and-pop shops are within walking distance, and several stores and restaurants are nearby.” A few locales reflect the close-knit feel of the community, including Blue Cactus Grill, which serves Southwest-inspired burgers and cheesesteaks. Folks enjoy fresh, handmade donuts and classic breakfast plates at Speedy Donuts or opt for an old-fashioned slice of pizza at Uncle Joe’s. Residents restock their pantries at JD’s Grocery and Deli, peruse the specialty Asian products at Oriental Food Market or shop the fresh meat selections at Norwalk Halal Meat Market. Opened in 2019, Norwalk’s SoNo Collection Mall offers an upscale shopping experience with brand names including Sephora, ZARA and Nordstrom.Crime in Spring Hill
