Art Deco apartments and Craftsman cottages

Eclectic single-family homes, condos and apartment buildings are packed along Adams Point’s inclined streets, but homeowners know how to make the most out of small pockets of yard space. “There’s a lot of green, and there are a lot of trees,” says Realtor Andrea Schlosser of Abio Properties, a longtime Bay Area resident. Many homes date to the early 1900s, with thoughtful restorations featuring upgraded kitchens, hardwood floors and open floor plans. Buyers will also find elegant midcentury modern and Art Deco apartments with views of the city. Prices for single-family homes range from around $1 million to $2 million. Condos range from the low $400,000s for a studio to nearly $2 million for a larger space with views.

Why the neighborhood appeals to young professionals

Adams Point offers a slice of city life with a little less noise and bustle than Oakland’s downtown core. Its walkability and proximity to nightlife and dining are major perks. “It tends to attract people who are looking for location,” says Realtor Jeremy Davidson of Compass Real Estate, a longtime Oakland resident. The area’s cultural diversity and creative energy appeal to millennials and Gen Z, and easy access to BART makes commuting to San Francisco a possibility. The mix of convenience and character keeps demand high.

How parking and traffic affect daily life

Street parking is competitive, especially after work hours. Some apartments offer garages, but many residents rely on street spots. Traffic noise is noticeable near I-580, although quieter streets are available. Peak-hour congestion can slow down commutes, making biking or public transit a more appealing option.

What amenities, restaurants and entertainment are available

Adams Point is near Grand Avenue, a popular strip that offers a range of dining options and boutiques. It’s home to the historic Grand Lake Theatre, an iconic movie palace listed among the country's top vintage movie theaters. Popular restaurants in the area include MAMA Oakland, which is featured in the Michelin Guide, and Grand Lake Kitchen, popular for brunch. Grocery options include Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods. You can head to the Grand Lake Farmers Market on Saturday mornings to pick up fresh produce and browse handmade wares. The neighborhood is just a short trip from many of Oakland’s cultural standout attractions, including museums, performing venues and art galleries.
