Locally owned businesses on International Bouleavrd
Reina’s Restaurant and Dixon’s are a couple of local favorites along International Blvd. Garrett says the restaurants have moved around Oakland, but are known in the community as popular spots. Other than that pairing, the area around Highland has plenty of locally owned businesses, and competition between street vendors and brick-and-mortar shops can be fierce. "I think the street vendors put the flower companies out of business because they sell them at such a lower price," says Garrett. “I see a lot of mom-and-pop grocery stores all over the area," says Garrett. "If you go down East 14th, you see the vendors selling toys, food and flowers. ” For groceries, people in the area head to Food King, and Bridgeside Shopping Center for more restaurants and retail shops.
