As the city’s waterfront manufacturing industries boomed, communities like Jefferson sprung up to provide affordable housing to the workers. Most of Jefferson’s homes trace their construction to that decade, and their bungalow and Craftsman styles have a timeless appeal. Homes here cost between $550,000 and $915,000. Though almost every home here was built before World War II, many have been remodeled, fetching higher prices than their original-build counterparts. The nearest healthcare center, Highland Hospital, is a 3-mile drive up Interstate 580. Interstate 880 connects Jefferson to Oakland International Airport 5.5 miles away.
