A central Oakland community with international flair
The San Antonio neighborhood is located near the center of Oakland, just 2.5 miles from downtown. The mixed-use neighborhood, also known as Rancho San Antonio, is filled with turn-of-the-20th-century housing. Once a stop on the San Francisco and Oakland Railroad, this is one of the most diverse neighborhoods in the city, according to Niche. The vibrant, multi-cultural community offers green spaces, eateries and many transportation options right across the Tidal Canal from Alameda. “San Antonio has a lot of great classic architecture like Craftsman and Victorian homes, lots of greenery, and the weather is very pleasant. The people are friendly and laid-back, and the food is a big plus. There are lots of great restaurants and bakeries,” says Grant Inaba, a Realtor with Compass with nearly 15 years of experience. “San Antonio is east of Lake Merritt, the epicenter of Oakland. Real estate gets less expensive the farther from the lake you go, so the neighborhood is very economical and still close to downtown and San Francisco.”
