Locals get active at the Rockridge-Temescal Greenbelt

For a walk among the redwoods, locals head to the Rockridge-Temescal Greenbelt, a tree-covered trail bookended by two playgrounds. It's colloquially known as FROG Park, named for the community organization that established it several decades ago. Shafter is less than a mile from Claremont Country Club, a century-old private club with an 18-hole golf course and a Tudor-style clubhouse. For views of the Oakland Hills, picnickers head to nearby Mountain View Cemetery, a scenic, garden-style burial ground designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, the renowned landscape architect responsible for New York City's Central Park. Its rolling hills, landscaped walkways and serene views make it popular for walking and gathering with friends.
