Shafter is a north Oakland neighborhood wedged between trendy Temescal and Rockridge and filled to the brim with upscale homes where residents walk to get groceries, dine out with friends or stop by the weekly farmer’s market. “Everything is really close to you, and there’s a real community there. You’ll see your neighbors at the grocery store or the coffee shop all the time,” says Realtor Jennifer Graham of KW Advisors, who lives in the area.

It's colloquially known as FROG Park, named for the community organization that established it several decades ago. Shafter is less than a mile from Claremont Country Club, a century-old private club with an 18-hole golf course and a Tudor-style clubhouse. For views of the Oakland Hills, picnickers head to nearby Mountain View Cemetery, a scenic, garden-style burial ground designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, the renowned landscape architect responsible for New York City's Central Park. Its rolling hills, landscaped walkways and serene views make it popular for walking and gathering with friends.
Frog Park is a long greenbelt running through Shafter.
The Rockridge Green belt trail goes through the Shafter area of Oakland and walkers love it.

Oakland Unified School District serves area kids
Students in the neighborhood can attend Emerson Elementary School, then move on to Claremont Middle School and Oakland Technical High School, all a part of the Oakland Unified School District. Emerson Elementary has a C-minus rating on Niche, Claremont Middle has a B rating, and Oakland Tech has an A rating. Oakland Tech serves about 1,900 students and has a student-teacher ratio of 19-to-1. It offers many clubs and organizations, including Debate Club, Improv Club and Mental Health Awareness Club.
The Claremont Middle School has dozens of excellent teachers and stuff.
Oakland Tech High School has 1800 students and is the home of the Bulldogs in Gaskill.
