There are two different styles of homes in Sobrante Park. The older section has two and three-bedroom bungalow-style homes that run $450,000 to $550,00. The backyards are small, providing just enough room for a garden or outdoor seating. The newer section presents two-story attached single-family homes that were built in 2007. These homes have much smaller backyards and have a median price of $480,000. The neighborhood has sidewalks and street parking.
Kids can attend Brookfield Elementary School from pre-K to sixth grade. The school received a C- minus rating from Niche. Madison Park Academy is a combined middle and high school with a C+ rating from Niche.
Whether after school or on the weekends, you can go to several parks in the area. Thrasher Park is the city's oldest park. Renovated in 1992, it has several unique features, including a lighted softball field and a skateboard park. There are six barbecue pits, six picnic tables, a tot lot and restrooms. You can reserve a picnic area from May 1 through October 31. Siempre Verde is also a favorite destination. Located at the corner of Park Street and San Leandro Boulevard, this newly renovated park provides open green space and recreational facilities. If you want to get away without traveling too far, head to Martin Luther King Regional Shoreline, only five minutes away. This peaceful location offers picnic and barbecue areas. There's also an elevated area for bird-watching, or you can take a leisurely stroll along the shoreline. There are also several boat launches and fishing piers for water activities.Need some exercise? Head over to the East Oakland Sports Center located within William "Bill" Patterson Park. The facility is part of a complex and includes state-of-the-art fitness, aquatic and dance centers. There's also Ira Jinkins Recreation Center, which has a gymnasium, tennis courts, baseball diamond, and a toddler playground.
The library closest to Sobrante Park is the Oakland Public Library: Brookfield Branch. For you, it's a reader's haven thanks to the facility's comprehensive book catalog; for your child, it's a kiddie wonderland. Not only is there story time, but kids ages 0-6 can borrow toys, up to two at a time.
There's plenty of shopping in and around Sobrante Park. Costco is only a nine-minute drive. Travel to the next exit on I-880, and you'll find Walmart, Ross and Home Depot.For a quick bite, several eateries are a short drive from the neighborhood. Grab your morning coffee at It's a Grind Coffee House on Davis Street in San Leandro. On that same street, satisfy your barbecue craving at Brother's BBQ and Ohana Hawaiian BBQ. For fine dining, locals go to Paradiso, recently awarded Wine Spectator Best of Award for Excellence for 2023.
Public transit is provided by AC Transit, which has 13 bus stops in the community.
