Just east of The University of Texas Permian Basin and 5 miles from Downtown Odessa, Devonian Estates is a neighborhood known for its exceptional homes and convenient location. As homebuyers drive through the streets of Devonian Estates, they’ll find brick ranch-style and mid-century modern homes, many on generous lots with tree-covered front yards and two-car garages. “Properties in Devonian Estates are built to last,” Rosas says. Homes here feature space in the backyard for entertaining, with most having wooden fences and some having inground pools. Single-family homes have sold for between $275,000 and $400,000. “When these come on the market, they sell quickly,” Rosas says. Townhouses are another popular option in the neighborhood and have gone for the high $100,000s.

Permian High’s football program, the subject of Friday Night Lights
The Devonian Estates neighborhood students are assigned to the Ector County Independent School District. Starting in kindergarten, children attend Lyndon B. Johnson Elementary School, which earns a C grade from Niche and is walkable from much of the neighborhood. From there, students move to Nimitz Junior High before attending Permian High, both of which receive a C-plus mark from Niche. Permian High is known for its football program, the subject of the 1991 book and 2004 movie Friday Night Lights.

Conveniently located between multiple utilized thoroughfares
Devonian Estates is between Route 338, Texas Highway 191 and Interstate 20, giving commuters easy access to Downtown Odessa and Midland. Downtown Odessa is a 6-mile drive from the neighborhood, while Midland is 17 miles away. Public transportation is unavailable within the neighborhood, but residents can utilize the Midland Odessa Urban Transit District bus system, otherwise known as EZ-Rider, from the stops along University Boulevard, about a mile away. Those looking to catch a flight can make the 8-mile drive up Interstate 20 to the Midland Air & Space Port. Medical attention can be found at the Medical Center Hospital, 6 miles away.

Devonian Estates is less than 2 miles from UTPB Park, which locals enjoy in the summer for its playground, splash pad and public pool. The park also offers three walking trails, allowing visitors to see some nature and the University of Texas Permian Basin campus. Just south of there is The Basin Sports Complex, which has 14 baseball fields and 42 soccer fields, along with various other sports fields and courts. The complex hosts youth and adult leagues and tournaments to get the community involved. Memorial Garden Park has a pond that visitors can ponder over as they walk along the waterside paved path. Adrenaline rush seekers enjoy heading to the Odessa Mountain Bike Park, which has trails for various skill levels.

Along Texas Highway 191, there are many options for eating out. Red Oak Kitchen combines southwestern and American cuisine, from a steak quesadilla or fish tacos to chicken sandwiches and pizza. For an upscale dining experience, locals head to Saltgrass Steakhouse, which serves traditional steakhouse favorites like steak, chicken and seafood. While Devonian Estates doesn’t have neighborhood events, locals enjoy attending those put on by the City of Odessa. During the holiday season, many gather for the Parade of Lights, which includes a parade and free hot chocolate. For Independence Day, residents attend the 4th of July Fandango, which starts with a car show, market and food vendors and concludes with fireworks at the end of the night.

Golfers living in Devonian Estates can consider joining the Odessa Country Club, 3 miles away.
