On the western border of Route 338, 4 miles from Downtown Odessa, sits Henderson Heights, a neighborhood known for its accessibility and space. “Homebuyers will be looking in Henderson Heights for its easy access to Interstate 20,” says Tim Lester, a Realtor with Keller Williams Realty. “Some of these properties have larger lots. It gives less of a city feel and more of a rural feel.” Many residents here work at one of the industrial sites nearby. When not at work, residents enjoy nearby Floyd Gwin Park, which boasts a variety of athletic fields along with a pool for the hot summer months. Throughout the year, nearby McKinney Park has festive events to bring the community together, like the Odessa Fall Festival.

Ranch-style and mobile homes with gravel driveways and carports

As prospective residents drive up and down the streets of Henderson Heights, they’ll see ranch-style and mobile homes on an average of half-acre lots. Ranch-style homes have sold for between $180,000 and $210,000, while mobile homes have gone in the low $100,000 range. Many of these homes have gravel driveways and carports. “They’ve added a few mobile home and RV parks,” says Yvonne Rosas, a Realtor with eXp Realty and a resident of Odessa. “These are smaller places and are more affordable. It’s a place to get a good buy.” The neighborhood doesn’t have sidewalks, so residents use cars to get from place to place.

Easy access to Route 338 and Interstate 20

The neighborhood is bordered by Route 338, which connects to Interstate 20 going south. Downtown Odessa is just 4 miles from Henderson Heights, and residents can utilize the Midland Odessa Urban Transit District, otherwise known as EZ-Rider, which offers service from the bus stop on 16th Street & Linda Avenue. Midland International Air & Space Port is 16 miles away for those looking to catch a flight. Medical attention can be found 3 miles away at the Medical Center Hospital.

From Marquez Bakery to Devoted Grind Coffee House

Marquez Bakery is two miles east of the neighborhood and serves Mexican food for breakfast and lunch, along with bread, pastries and tortillas. “Marquez Bakery has great bread,” Rosas says. They also sell seasoning and tortillas in a bag. They have many things you can take home with you.” Another nearby option for Mexican Food is Rosa’s Café, which is popular for its Taco Tuesday discounts. For an afternoon caffeine jolt, residents head to Peaches and Beaches Espresso, which offers anything from macchiatos to lattes. Music City Mall is 8 miles east of Henderson Heights and offers residents stores like JCPenney and Dillard’s along with entertainment like live music and a roller rink. Locals head to Walmart on the other side of Route 338 for groceries.

Residents cool off at Floyd Gwin Park’s pool

Residents looking to get active can head to Floyd Gwin Park, ideal for pickup basketball or tennis matches. Along with an array of athletic fields and courts, the park also has a pool perfect for summer. Children also enjoy the park’s green space and playground. Over at McKinney Park, there is a playground and a splash pad to keep kids entertained. The Comanche Trail West runs through McKinney Park and lands at the Comanche Trail Pond, where residents can fish. The Comanche Trail is just over 2 miles as a loop, ideal for bikers and runners.

Students produce Broncho News at Odessa High School

Children in Henderson Heights get their education within the Ector County Independent School District, where they start at Noel Elementary, which earns a C-minus grade from Niche. In sixth grade, students move on to Crockett Middle before attending Odessa High, both of which earn a C grade from Niche. Odessa High allowed students to participate in a school news program called the Broncho News, which informs students and parents about student happenings. For private schools, St. John’s Episcopal serves Pre-K through sixth grade just east of the neighborhood. Niche has yet to grade the school.

Fall Festival and Christmas Lights Drive-Thru at McKinney Park

Residents of Henderson Heights enjoy heading to McKinney Park, which hosts both a Fall Festival and a Christmas Lights Drive-thru. For Independence Day, all of Odessa comes together for the 4th of July Fandango, which includes a car show, fireworks, food and market vendors.
