Older Odessa neighborhood near the medical district and Floyd Gwin Park
Two miles west of Downtown Odessa and less than 1 mile north of Interstate 20 is Lasseter, a neighborhood where everyone knows everyone. “Most of these folks know each other because of it being an older neighborhood,” says Yvonne Rosas, a Realtor with eXp Realty. “Parents have died, and kids all know each other and have taken over the houses.” The neighborhood is near Odessa’s medical district, which is appealing to people seeking medical attention and those working in the industry. Lasseter is also bordered by Floyd Gwin Park, one of the more dynamic parks in Odessa with a skate park and a pool.

Ranch-style and shotgun-style homes along wide streets
Along the streets of Lasseter sits ranch-style and shotgun-style homes with brick or stucco siding. These homes have sold for between $80,000 and $340,000. “There are some flood zones in this area,” Rosas says. “Insurance will be a bit more.” Many of these homes have short fences in the front yard and a garage or a carport. Streets in the neighborhood are wide enough for street parking. Sidewalks line some roads but not all, so residents rely on cars to get around. As for crime, the CAP Index gave Lasseter a Crime Score of 6 out of 10, higher than the national average.

Odessa High football games at Odessa’s Ratliff Stadium
Students in Lasseter are assigned to attend schools within the Ector County Independent School District. Starting in kindergarten, children may attend San Jacinto Elementary, which earns a B-minus grade from Niche. From there, students move on to Bowie Junior High, which receives a C-minus. In ninth grade, students attend Odessa High, which earns a C. Odessa High has a fierce crosstown football rivalry with Permian High. Both teams play at Odessa’s Ratliff Stadium. As for private school options, St. John’s Episcopal School is in Lasseter and serves pre-kindergarten through sixth grade. Niche has not yet graded the school.

Direct access to Midland using Interstate 20
Lasseter residents are less than 1 mile from Interstate 20, which provides direct access to Midland, 22 miles away. Downtown Odessa is a 2-mile drive from the neighborhood. Residents can use the Midland Odessa Urban Transit District bus system, otherwise known as the EZ-Rider, from the stop on 8th Street, less than 1 mile away. The Midland International Air & Space Port is 13 miles away. The nearest hospital is the Medical Center Hospital, about 1 mile away.
The 3.2-mile Comanche Trail
The neighborhood is bordered to the north by Floyd Gwin Park, which has a pool, skate park, playground and courts for basketball, tennis and pickleball. Across Park Boulevard from there, there are also a handful of soccer fields. About 1 mile south of Lasseter is the Comanche Trail West Park, which connects to the Comanche Trail South Park via a 3.2-mile path. At Comanche Trail South Park, there is a lake where locals can fish. The trail also runs through McKinney Park, which has baseball fields and a playground, along with beach volleyball, tennis and basketball courts. One mile north of Floyd Gwin Park is San Jacinto Park and Western Manor Park, both of which have a green space, a walking path and a playground.
Coffee and pastries at Doughboy’s Cafe
Right across North County Road from Lasseter is Jalisco’s To Go, a Mexican restaurant serving its food in a drive-thru setting. Just north of there is Doughboy’s Café, which has pastries, donuts and coffee. Garely’s Mexican Restaurant is north of the neighborhood and is known for its great enchilada and margaritas. It’s a popular spot for locals for lunch. For shopping, Odessa’s Music City Mall, which has stores like Burlington and JCPenney, is a 7-mile drive from Lasseter. Walmart Supercenter is nearby for groceries and everyday essentials.
The Permian Basin Fair & Expo at the Ector County Coliseum
Odessa’s Ector County Coliseum is 4 miles north of Lasseter and hosts various events throughout the year. People come from all over to attend the Permian Basin Fair & Expo, which has live music, a carnival and a petting zoo. The event also includes competitions like food-eating contests and a scavenger hunt.
Ratliff Ranch Golf Links
Golfers in the neighborhood can get a round in at the Ratliffe Ranch Golf Links, 8 miles north of Lasseter. The club, along with an 18-hole course, has a Linx Bar & Grill where golfers can grab a meal or drink before or after a round. The club also hosts events and tournaments throughout the year.
