The oil industry is one of Odessa’s primary employers, and as the oil industry grows, so do some of these neighborhoods. “I live there, and it is a booming area,” says Monica McDaniel, the Director of Communications with the City of Odessa. “D.R. Horton and other construction companies are building there with new, affordable houses.” The neighborhood also receives a 3 out of 10 on the CAP Index Crime Score, lower than the national average of 4. “It is a great place for small families,” McDaniel says.
