Lyndale is a centrally located residential neighborhood about 4 miles from downtown Odessa. The median sale price in the neighborhood is around $210,000, compared to $349,000 for the city of Odessa. "It's an older part of Odessa, so you can find some homes for a good price," says Earl Anderson, a real estate agent with Heritage Real Estate who has lived in Odessa for nearly 50 years. The neighborhood is close to schools and parks, like the local staple Sherwood Park, which adds to the appeal.

Brick ranch-style homes, built in the mid-1900s, are prominent throughout the neighborhood, with most having a garage and driveway. Lot sizes are typically between 7,000 and 11,000 square feet, and they sit close to their neighbors. "They are fairly large lots for central Odessa, and you have alleys and fences to separate and get some privacy," Anderson says. House prices typically range between $170,000 for a starter home to around $240,000 for a ranch-style house with a lot around 10,000 square feet. Wide roads run throughout the neighborhood with enough room for street parking. Oak trees and bushes are scattered throughout Lyndale, next to narrow sidewalks.

Skateboarding and baseball games at Sherwood Park
Lyndale residents don't have to go far to find Sherwood Park, the largest park in Odessa, just a few blocks away. "Sherwood is a big park; the city has spent quite a few dollars there," Anderson says. Oak trees surround the outside of the 56-acre park, which features several sports fields, an expansive play area and the Ruben Pier Memorial Skate Park. Locals love the aquatic center and pools in the summer, with a few water slides and a diving board. The park hosts an annual pool party at the aquatic center, including music and water games. Optimist Park is a pocket park with open fields, a modest playground and a tennis court surrounded by trees less than a mile away.
Sherwood Park is most popular for its skate park near Lyndale of Odessa.
Though summer can be warm, Odessa's Optimist Park gets active in the mornings and evenings.

A few miles from two colleges
Education begins at Ireland Elementary, a C-plus school, according to Niche, and is within walking distance. Wilson and Young Medal of Honor Middle School gets a C and is about a mile from the neighborhood, across 42nd Street. Permian High School earns a C-plus rating and is known for its football program after being the subject of the hit novel and film 'Friday Night Lights.' The University of Texas Permian Basin and Odessa College are each a few miles from Lyndale for students looking to continue their education.

Grab groceries and southern comfort food at Sherwood Shopping Center
The Winwood Town Center is about a mile from Lyndale and includes H-E-B, Target, and Ross Dress for Less. Mornings may begin at Café de Luna, across the street from the town center. The café features an extensive drink menu of coffee, smoothies and boba and breakfast foods, including a waffle with strawberries and fruity pebbles sprinkled on top. Nearby, Bahama Buck's is a local chain serving desserts and smoothies in an island-vibe environment. Closer to the neighborhood is the Sherwood Shopping Mall, which includes a Lowe's Market and Big Daddy's Grill and Bar, a local restaurant offering catfish and other southern comfort favorites in a western décor joint.

Get around Odessa with a car
Lyndale residents have access to the Midland Odessa Urban Transit District bus system, otherwise known as EZ-Rider, with several stops along 42nd Street. Even with the EZ-Rider nearby, most people still drive. "People typically have a car since it is a good distance between places," Anderson says. "You can cross Odessa in 20 minutes if you have a car." Downtown Odessa is around 4 miles south of the neighborhood, as is Odessa Regional Medical Center. Midland International Air and Space Port is about 11 miles from Lyndale. Odessa-Schlemeyer Airport is a few miles away but is only used for private and recreational flights.
