Central Odessa neighborhood with mid-century homes
Normandy Heights sits near the center of Odessa, a couple miles from downtown and access to major roadways leading to the oil fields. “A lot of people here work in the oilfields or service the oilfields,” says Tonya Trower, A broker with Trower Realtors who has around two decades of experience. “They are a major employer here and has led to a lot of people coming in.” The residential neighborhood is in the older part of Odessa, with homes built in the mid-1900s and a few blocks away from Odessa College. The community gets together in nearby downtown for Christmas parades, tree lightings and the Fireworks Fandango every Fourth of July.
Families love Normandy Heights for its welcoming community and quiet streets.

Low inventory of ranch-style and bungalow homes
Neighborhood homes on lots, usually between 7,000 square feet and 10,000 square feet, line the wide streets of Normandy Heights, with enough space for street parking without interfering with cars passing by. A modest number of trees sit throughout the neighborhood, ranging in size from a couple of feet to cedar trees taller than the homes near them. National, bungalow and ranch-style houses are common throughout, many including a driveway or a parking port. Prices typically range from $140,000 to $300,000. Trower notes that homes don’t often hit the market in the area. “There are a lot of people coming in and not a lot of inventory.”

Rustic decor at the Barn Door Steakhouse
Normandy Heights residents don’t need to go far to find various restaurants and national chains. A short walk away, near Highway 385, is the Barn Door Steakhouse. The local landmark, with an actual barn door and a plastic cow standing watch on the roof, serves steaks and other entrees in a rustic, barnlike setting. Trower says the steakhouse is a favorite and has been there a long time. A block away is Ajuua’s Mexican Restaurant, offering Mexican favorites and seafood dishes with patio seating in a bright décor.
