Permian High, subject of Friday Night Lights
Residents in the North Country Club Estates neighborhood send their children to schools within the Ector County Independent School District. Starting in kindergarten, children attend Lyndon B. Johnson Elementary, which earns a C grade from Niche. From there, students move on to Nimitz Junior High before attending Permian High, both receiving a C-plus mark from Niche. Permian High’s 1988 football team was the subject of Friday Night Lights, a 1991 book and 2004 film. North Country Club Estates is conveniently located near the intersection of Route 338 and Highway 191, providing locals with easy access to the rest of Odessa. Commuters are just 6 miles from Downtown Odessa and can utilize the Midland Odessa Urban Transit District bus system, otherwise known as the EZ-Rider, from the University of Texas Permian Basin stop, less than a mile away. When residents want to head out of town for vacation, they can head to the Midland International Air & Space Port, 9 miles away. Odessa Regional Medical Center is the closest hospital, a 6-mile drive away.

Tons of fun for children at UTPB Park
Right across Route 338 sits UTPB Park, which residents with children enjoy for its playground, splash pad and public pool. The park also connects one of the three walking trails through nature and around the university. Just south of UTPB Park is The Basin Sports Complex, which has a dozen softball/baseball and soccer fields and a basketball and volleyball court. The complex has leagues for children and adults and various sports tournaments. For a scenic afternoon stroll, some head to Memorial Garden Park, which has a walking trail around a pond. Adventure enthusiasts enjoy the Odessa Mountain Bike Park just over a mile up Eastridge Road. The park offers 9 miles of biking trails.

Residents have a long list of both local and chain restaurants nearby. Red Oak Kitchen serves American favorites from pizza to pork chop. Red Oak also offers cocktails and a selection of wines and craft beers. When it's time to catch a game, locals stop by Walk On’s Sports Bistreaux, which has popular bar food like wings and burgers. There are chain restaurants like Olive Garden, Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen and Texas Roadhouse along Highway 191. North Country Club Estates is just 2 miles from the Music City Mall, which includes stores like JCPenney and Dillard’s. The mall also offers family-friendly entertainment, such as a roller-skating rink and live music performances. The Cinemark Century Odessa 12 is 1 mile from the neighborhood when residents want to catch a new movie. H-E-B is 3 miles away for any grocery needs.

Downtown Odessa’s 4th of July Fandango
Downtown Odessa has a 4th of July Fandango every Independence Day that’s popular among the community. “Fandango is really big,” Herriage says. “Last year we had 35,000 people at that event. This will be the 26th year. We will have a car show, two stages with live entertainment, a children's area, and fireworks downtown.” Odessa also has a Christmas parade. “Several thousand people line the streets for the event,” Herriage says.

Odessa Country Club nearby
Locals may be able to join the member-by-invitation-only Odessa Country Club, which is 3 miles from the neighborhood. The club includes two golf courses, tennis facilities, working out and swimming. When the fun’s over, members also have a few dining options within the club.
