Older neighborhood in central Odessa
The residential neighborhood of Parker Heights sits in the center area of Odessa, about 3 miles from downtown. “It’s in the older part of town, where the east and north areas are newer and expanding,” says Earl Anderson, a real estate agent with Heritage Real Estate who has lived in Odessa for nearly 50 years. “The nice part is you’re in the center of town, so you are close to everything.” Restaurants, a handful of parks and schools are all within a few miles of Parker Heights.

Mid-1900s brick, ranch-style houses
Ranch-style homes built in the mid-1900s are common throughout Parker Heights, with a mix of brick and vinyl exteriors. Houses typically cost between $160,000 to $230,000, with many older homes renovated or remodeled. “Prices in the older part of town are usually lower,” Anderson says. “Just because they are old doesn’t mean they are bad.” Roadways throughout the neighborhood offer room for street parking and sidewalks for a morning stroll.

Prepare for the heat
While Parker Heights doesn’t have a high flood risk, some nearby streets and areas along Dixie Boulevard can flood when it rains. Anderson notes that the flooding doesn’t affect the homes, just the roads. Like much of West Texas, the neighborhood does have a high heat factor, especially in the summer months; however, Anderson says it isn’t a major concern. “It does get hot, but so what? You get used to it,” Anderson says. “I’m 72 years old and still go hunting if it’s over 100 degrees.”
