Affordable suburban neighborhood near the medical district and Floyd Gwin Park
Two miles west of Downtown Odessa and 1 mile south of Floyd Gwin Park sits Rochester Heights. “It’s an old neighborhood that is priced affordably,” says Yvonne Rosas, a Realtor with eXp Realty. “It’s also close to the medical district.” The neighborhood’s proximity to the medical district is attractive for those who frequent the district or work in the medical field. Floyd Gwin Park has a skate park, pool and recreational spaces. The neighborhood’s price point, nearby restaurants, and proximity to downtown add to its appeal.
Ranch-style and contemporary homes along sidewalk-lined streets
Along the wide streets of Rochester Heights sit brick ranch-style and newer contemporary homes. “These homes were built in the 50s and 60s and are smaller homes that are between 1,200 and 1,600 square feet,” Rosas says. Many of these houses feature one-car garages or carports. Many residents also park on the streets, which are wide enough to accommodate parking on both sides. Properties in Rochester Heights have sold for between $140,000 and $220,000. The neighborhood is relatively walkable, with many streets including sidewalks.

Crosstown football rivalry between Odessa High and Permian High
Students in Rochester Heights are assigned to schools within the Ector County Independent School District. Starting in kindergarten, children attend Noel Elementary, which earns a C-minus from Niche. In sixth grade, students move on to Crockett Middle before attending Odessa High. Both schools are graded C by Niche. Odessa High’s football team has had a crosstown rivalry with Permian High since 1959. Both teams play at Odessa’s Ratliff Stadium, which holds nearly 18,000 people. Private school options include St. John’s Episcopal School, which is about 1 mile from the neighborhood and serves pre-kindergarten through sixth grade. Niche has not yet graded the school.
Medical Center Hospital 2 miles away
Rochester Heights is 2 miles west of Downtown Odessa and 25 miles from Midland. Residents can use the Midland Odessa Urban Transit District bus system, otherwise known as EZ-Rider, to get around Odessa. The closest stop to the neighborhood is about 1 mile away, next to Floyd Gwin Park. For flights, the Midland International Air & Space Port is 14 miles away. The nearest hospital is the Medical Center Hospital, a 2-mile drive.
The dynamic Floyd Gwin Park
Floyd Gwin Park is one of the more dynamic parks in Odessa. It has a skate park, a playground, three baseball fields and courts for tennis, basketball and pickleball. The park also has a pool for the summer months. Runners and bikers head to Comanche Trail West Park, which has a 3.2-mile path. The trail abuts Comanche Trail Park Lake, where fishermen can cast a line. San Jacinto Park is also nearby and offers a loop walking path, a playground and an open green space.

Hibachi and sushi at Mario’s Japanese Steakhouse and Sushi Bar
Just north of Rochester Heights is Mario’s Japanese Steakhouse and Sushi Bar, which serves hibachi and sushi on decorative plates. Off 10th Street, Doughboy’s Café offers caffeine and sugar boosts with coffee, donuts and other pastries. La Esperanza Mexican Restaurant serves up favorites like tacos and margaritas inside a colorful interior. For afternoon shopping, Odessa’s Music City Mall, anchored by stores like JCPenney and At Home, is 6 miles away. There is a Walmart Supercenter 2 miles north for groceries and everyday essentials.

Odessa’s 4th of July Fandango
Throughout the year, the City of Odessa organizes various events for residents. One of the more popular is the 4th of July Fandango. The event starts with a parade in the morning and concludes with fireworks at the end of the night. The event also includes a handful of live music acts.
Public golf options 10 miles north
Golfers living in Rochester Heights can drive 10 miles north to the Ratliff Ranch Golf Links. The public club has an 18-hole course and a Linx Bar & Grill, where golfers can get in a meal before or after a round. Also 10 miles north is the Sunset Golf Country Club, which, like Ratliff Ranch, has an 18-hole course and restaurant.
