1960’s ranch-style homes with garages and space for entertainment

Along the wide streets of Wedgewood, brick, ranch-style homes built in the 1960s with tree-shaded front lawns and one- to two-car garages are found. While the homes are close together, they have plenty of room for entertaining out back, with some homes featuring inground pools and patios. Most properties in Wedgewood sell for between $180,000 and $380,000. “Houses don’t stay on the market very long,” says Yvonne Rosas, a Realtor with eXp Realty with five years of experience selling in the area. Six-time state champion Permian High football program

Wedgewood students are assigned to attend schools within the Ector County Independent School District. The neighborhood is split amongst two kindergarten through 5th grade institutions, Blanton Elementary and Gonzales Elementary. Blanton Elementary earns a B-minus mark from Niche, while Gonzales receives a C-plus. Both schools feed into C-plus-graded Nimitz Junior High School and C-plus-graded Permian High School. The football program at Permian High is well-known in the community, winning six state championships in its storied history. As for private school options, Montessori Mastery School of Odessa serves fourth through 12th grade and earns a B-minus. EZ-Rider bus system access from University Boulevard

Locals living in Wedgewood can use the Midland Odessa Urban Transit District bus system, otherwise known as the EZ-Rider, from the stop at the intersection of University Boulevard and Fair Oaks Circle. Summer swims at UTPB Park’s public pool

Two miles west of Wedgewood is Jim Parker Park, with two baseball diamonds, a playground, two basketball courts and two tennis courts. Just 2 miles north of the neighborhood is Memorial Garden Park, which has a 0.6-mile walking trail around a pond. The University of Texas Permian Basin’s Park is 2 miles east of Memorial Garden Park. It has baseball and softball fields, a playground, a sprayground and a public swimming pool. From Jack Jordan’s BBQ to Flair Taverna

Just east of the neighborhood, off Parkway Boulevard, is Pho House Odessa. The restaurant serves Vietnamese food, including noodles and fried rice entrees. Jack Jordan’s BBQ is next door, selling meat plates and takeout orders for meat by the pound. Across University Boulevard from that shopping center is upscale Flair Taverna. “It’s a really nice, exclusive restaurant,” Hirsch says. Flair Taverna serves seasonal dishes like lobster ravioli pescatore, chicken al Limone, ribeye and filet mignon. For shopping, the Music City Mall is 2 miles north and has stores like JCPenney, Burlington and At Home. For groceries, there is an H-E-B 2 miles north off 42nd Street.

From the Fourth of July Fandango to the Parade of Lights

The City of Odessa hosts various events throughout the year. Every Independence Day, the city holds a Fourth of July Fandango, which starts with a parade in the morning and is capped off by live music and fireworks at the end of the night. Around the holidays, the city has a Parade of Lights, considered West Texas’s largest holiday lights parade.

Courses nearby for a round of golf

Wedgewood residents have a few golf courses to choose from. The Odessa Country Club, a member-by-invitation-only club 5 miles east of the neighborhood, has an 18-hole course and amenities like tennis courts, a swimming pool and a fitness center. Ratliff Ranch Golf Links is 5 miles north of Wedgewood and is an 18-hole public course. Ratliff Ranch also has a Linx Bar & Grill attached to the course so that golfers can grab a meal after their round. Sunset Golf Country Club is 9 miles north and offers 27 holes of golf along with a lounge and a pro shop.
