The neighborhood is split amongst two kindergarten through 5th grade institutions, Blanton Elementary and Gonzales Elementary. Blanton Elementary earns a B-minus mark from Niche, while Gonzales receives a C-plus. Both schools feed into C-plus-graded Nimitz Junior High School and C-plus-graded Permian High School. The football program at Permian High is well-known in the community, winning six state championships in its storied history. Just 2 miles north of the neighborhood is Memorial Garden Park, which has a 0.6-mile walking trail around a pond. The University of Texas Permian Basin’s Park is 2 miles east of Memorial Garden Park. It has baseball and softball fields, a playground, a sprayground and a public swimming pool. Just south of UTPB Park is the Basin Sports Complex, which has many athletic facilities and hosts leagues and tournaments for residents.

From Jack Jordan’s BBQ to Flair Taverna
Just east of the neighborhood, off Parkway Boulevard, is Pho House Odessa. The restaurant serves Vietnamese food, including noodles and fried rice entrees. Jack Jordan’s BBQ is next door, selling meat plates and takeout orders for meat by the pound. Across University Boulevard from that shopping center is upscale Flair Taverna. “It’s a really nice, exclusive restaurant,” Hirsch says. Flair Taverna serves seasonal dishes like lobster ravioli pescatore, chicken al Limone, ribeye and filet mignon. For shopping, the Music City Mall is 2 miles north and has stores like JCPenney, Burlington and At Home. For groceries, there is an H-E-B 2 miles north off 42nd Street.

From the Fourth of July Fandango to the Parade of Lights
The City of Odessa hosts various events throughout the year. Every Independence Day, the city holds a Fourth of July Fandango, which starts with a parade in the morning and is capped off by live music and fireworks at the end of the night.
