East Central Ogden
Century-old houses and multi-family options
Homes in East Central Ogden are lined along condensed, gridded streets. While a handful of properties have alleyway access, most use street parking. Bungalows with front porches built in the 1910s and brick single-story homes from the 1940s are common. These properties span 750 to 2,500 square feet and range from $275,000 to $450,000. American foursquare homes go for similar prices. As one of the city’s older neighborhoods, East Central Ogden also has the Jefferson Historic District and the Eccles Historic District. Both areas have Victorian homes from the late 1800s and early 1900s with wrap-around porches and spires. Properties span 2,100 to 5,500 square feet and are valued between $500,000 and $1.2 million, depending on condition. “The historic district has a lot of older homes that are very pretty,” says Realtor Kimberly Green with Besst Realty Group, who has over 5 years of experience. “You have to follow specific guidelines on how to maintain the property’s integrity.” Out-of-service train tracks travel down the district’s streets. In addition to traditional houses, multi-family properties such as duplexes and fourplexes dot the neighborhood. These units go for $700,000 to $875,000. There are also brick condos and townhouses priced around $350,000 to $500,000. More people rent than own homes in East Central Ogden, and newer apartment complexes accommodate.

Next door is the Weber County Main Library, which provides both child and adult discovery programs. Liberty Park sits next to New Bridge Elementary School and has a handful of courts for basketball and tennis. A multi-use field is used for practice and games by the local flag football and soccer teams. The northern area of the neighborhood, past 20th Street, is lined with recreational areas along the Ogden River. “There’s a walkway along the river that goes all throughout Ogden,” Green says. “You could walk forever down the river past multiple parks.” North of the river, Lorin Farr Park has a seasonal swimming pool and a skate park. Visitors can walk along the trail from the green space to the Spencer Fox Eccles Pioneer Stadium, which hosts rodeos and derbies throughout the year. The Ogden Pioneer Day Rodeo on July 24 is the city’s most notable event, celebrating the city’s founders. On the other side of the river, the Ogden Botanical Gardens has cement and gravel pathways meandering through rows of rose bushes, perennials and landscaped shrubbery. Produce grown in the gardens is donated to a local food bank, and photographers enjoy the gardens as a site for engagement and graduation photos.

Down the Street, artists can get their work featured at the Eccles Community Art Center. Housed in an old Victorian Mansion, the gallery showcases monthly exhibits of local work available for purchase.Nearby shops and restaurants on the boulevards

On Monroe Boulevard, El Pollo Rico is a traditional Mexican restaurant, and a Family Dollar and a 7-Eleven are both close by. At the intersection of 25th Street and Adams Avenue, The Lotus Cafe is another breakfast place with specialty drinks. Red Fort Cuisine of India serves authentic dishes, and The Angry Goat Pub and Kitchen is known for its craft beer selection and weekend brunch. Rancho Markets is the neighborhood’s grocery store.
