Jefferson
Suburban Neighborhood in Ogden, Utah
Weber County 84401
A mixed bag of housing options
Homes in Jefferson are lined along gridded residential streets. In some areas, properties have alleyway access, while others use street parking. Many yards have simple grassy fields, with a tree or two. Single-story Craftsman homes from the 1890s and bungalows with a cottage core from the 1920s are the area’s primary housing styles. These properties span 800 to 2,000 square feet and range from $275,000 to $400,000. “It’s very diverse. There’s a lot of everything, and most of the houses have been remodeled,” Amarillo says. “There’s a combination of both renters and buyers.” Traditional townhouses usually come with an attached garage, and most condos have balconies. These multi-family housing options range from 750 to 1,200 square feet and are priced $250,000 to $300,000. There are also a handful of apartment complexes in the neighborhood, including Wingspan, Phoenix Rise and Browning Apartments.Recreational facilities for the community
While most of the neighborhood is residential and commercial, there are a handful of places offering recreation for the area. Jefferson Park has grassy fields and a playground. An archway at the entrance to the park displays children playing along the frame. The Marshall White Center on 28th Street is a landmark for the community. When the center was slated for demolition in 2023, the community rallied together to create a $30 million renovation project that would save it. Upon completion, the project will add an indoor aquatics facility, basketball courts and a fully equipped fitness center to Marshall White. Currently, it holds youth and adult recreation and educational classes. The Marshall White Center Park next door has a playground, picnic tables and walking paths.Getting educated in Ogden public schools
Families living in Jefferson can send their kids to public schools within the Ogden City School District. Odyssey Elementary serves kindergarten through sixth grade, while George Washington High School teaches seventh through 12th grade. Both schools earn C grades from Niche. Odyssey provides an English as a Second Language Program for both students and parents. Students at George Washington can participate in work-based learning opportunities through the school’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) classes.Traveling in and around Jefferson
Jefferson’s gridded streets and narrow sidewalks contribute to the neighborhood’s walkability. However, a vehicle is the preferred method of getting around. Highway 89, known as Washington Boulevard, runs through the neighborhood, traveling north to south. Drivers can take this road throughout Ogden and roughly 37 miles south to Salt Lake City. Access to Interstate 15 is a mile west of Jefferson. The Ogden Express has bus stops along Washington Boulevard, 26th and 28th streets and Wall Avenue. Most of the bus routes connect to Utah’s commuter rail system at Ogden Central Station.Businesses and restaurants along Washington Boulevard
Washington Boulevard is lined with various businesses. Auto repair shops and home services are some of the main industries, though there are a handful of retail options, such as Burton’s Furniture and Little Rainbow Candy Store. Dozens of Mexican restaurants are scattered along Washington, including Taqueria La Tapatia and Patricia’s Restaurant. Cafe La Vos is a Salvadorian eatery serving traditional dishes like pupusas and tamales. Anaya’s Market is the area’s grocery store, which sells international produce and products. More restaurant options are located at the intersection of 37th Street and Washington. Criddle’s Cafe is a small-town diner serving classic American breakfast. The Thirsty Horse adds nightlife to the area, with a full-service bar and live music. Fast food chains include Kentucky Fried Chicken and Papa Muphy’s. Macey’s is another nearby grocery store option. Newgate Mall is roughly 2 miles south of the neighborhood and has dozens of national retailers and department stores.
