A sparkling location gives this neighborhood its luster

Brass is worth more than gold for residents of this highly sought-after community on the border between Oklahoma City and Edmond. Per Joseph Keck, a Realtor with Keller Williams Realty Elite who has experience selling in the area, “Brasswood is a very desirable neighborhood. It’s easy to feel like you’re sheltered from the hustle and bustle here in this part of town.” He notes homebuyers flock to Brasswood for the location and atmosphere: “You’ve got the Edmond schools, which people love, and super easy access to the Kilpatrick Turnpike.” Plus, with spacious homes priced between $200,000 and $425,000 and major shopping centers within arm’s reach, Brasswood doesn’t need polishing for its shine to stand out.

Established homes with excellent value for square footage

Beneath the shade-dappled trees, traditional-style 1990s to mid-2000s-era homes line the streets. Though simple brick-and-vinyl homes are popular, many feature Craftsman or Tudor-style design elements like earth-toned natural material facades or half-timbering on the front-facing garage doors. Keck notes that prices can be higher than in some nearby neighborhoods. “Most of the homes here are between $200,000 and $350,000, but some go as high as $425,000. You’re going to pay less per square foot, but the square footage is significantly higher, so the prices are still going to be elevated,” he says. A typical four-bedroom, four-bathroom home built in 1999, featuring an attached three-car garage, walk-in closets and new bathroom fixtures tends to list for $375,000. “When you look at the list versus sold price, it’s usually the same. People are getting about what they ask for in Brasswood, and inventory is moving quick,” Keck adds.

Everyday retail and family fun are close by

Brasswood’s proximity to a plethora of shopping and dining options is a major part of its appeal. For groceries, residents head down to shopping centers right along the Kilpatrick Turnpike, where Costco, Sam’s Club and Walmart Supercenter are all right outside of the neighborhood. For some retail therapy, Quail Springs Mall is about a mile west. One of OKC’s most popular shopping centers since it opened in 1980, today, the mall offers more than just traditional retail. Locals can learn about sea creatures at the Blue Zoo aquarium or get sporty at Lunar Mini Golf and Round 1 Bowling. Chisholm Creek, another OKC entertainment and dining destination, is also nearby. Jennifer Fields, a Realtor with Re/Max at Home, says that between the Topgolf, Cabela’s and the myriad of restaurants, “there’s tons to do there; it’s a great area.” For dinner, Fields recommends Riserva, a modern, Mediterranean-style eatery serving skirt steak shawarma and short rib hummus. “They’re both really delicious,” she gushes.

Zoned to attractively rated Edmond Schools

When summer ends and it’s time to hit the books, Brasswood youngsters attend schools in the highly rated Edmond Public Schools system. Many go to Charles Haskell Elementary, Summit Middle and Santa Fe High School, all of which boast an A-minus or higher from Niche. Santa Fe High, named for the railroad famous for putting Edmond on the map, is ranked in the top 10 best public high schools in the state by U.S. News & World Report. Keck notes that “Edmond is definitely desirable as far as schools,” adding that many of his clients move here so that their children can attend schools in this district.

A neighborhood park and pool keeps locals active

Residents can stay close to home to enjoy the great outdoors at the community park along Brasswood Boulevard. The park, which features a shady playground overlooking a sunny, grassy baseball field, is conveniently located at the heart of the neighborhood, just half a mile from most homes and right next door to Brasswood’s private outdoor pool. The pool is a popular spot for residents of all ages to escape the Oklahoman summer heat, the sounds of happy shouts and splashes echo over the nearby homes on hot days.

Commute with easy access to the Kilpatrick Turnpike

With the Kilpatrick Turnpike directly to the south, Downtown OKC is about 20 minutes away, and residents have a ticket to international travel at Will Rogers World Airport, roughly a 35-minute drive from home. Though the neighborhood is largely car-dependent, Embark buses do stop along Pennsylvania Avenue. An emergency room at SSM Health St. Anthony Healthplex is also close by off the Turnpike.
