Urban living meets suburban convenience in northwest Oklahoma City
For homebuyers looking for nostalgic home styles, proximity to one of the best schools in Oklahoma, a local park and quick, easy access to some of northwest Oklahoma City's top retail and dining, Community 2000 checks every box. Resting in the curve of Interstate 44 where it meets the Northwest Expressway, Community 2000 is home to a nearly equal number of owners and renters enjoying its convenience. “There are people of all ages. You’ll see houses that look like they haven’t been updated in 40 years, and the people who bought those houses still live there,” says Jim Miller, a Realtor with Keller Williams-Yukon who lived just south of the neighborhood for more than 20 years. Along with the 1940s through '60s-era ranch-styles, traditionals and midcentury properties, buyers here will also come across new construction, with prices ranging from $100,000 to $450,000.
A wide range of home styles and prices
OKC’s grid pattern is interrupted here by the meandering Deep Fork River, segmenting the neighborhood. Homes rest along a network of cul-de-sacs and dead-end streets surrounded by trees, creating a secluded feel, despite being so close to busy commercial areas. Many of the houses in Community 2000 are ranch-style homes built in the 1940s and 1950s, but there are also 1950s traditional, 1960s midcentury modern, 1980s contemporary homes, and even some new construction dotted around the area. With house sizes varying significantly, prices run the gamut from $100,000 for a smaller home that needs work to over $400,000 for a fully renovated place over 2,500 square feet. “It’s a great place to find opportunities to build equity in property,” Miller says. Buyers are paying $239,000 on average.

With two of OKC's premier shopping and dining destinations within 3 miles of home, Community 2000 residents live in a prime spot for retail therapy. Penn Square Mall has over 140 specialty stores and restaurants, while the sprawling Classen Curve offers an outdoor shopping experience with a variety of upscale stores and amenities. For all the essentials, stores like Target, ALDI and The Home Depot are just outside the neighborhood along May Avenue. The street is also home to local favorites like Summer Moon Coffee, where residents can try oak-roasted coffee with sweet cream moon milk in its café filled with natural light, and Sheesh Mahal, known for delicious Pakistani and Indian meals without frills. “It’s fantastic. They serve your food and drink in paper cups and on Styrofoam plates. They treat you as part of their family,” Miller raves.
One of the best middle schools in the OKC metro
Children here can walk to Monroe Elementary School, which earns a C grade from Niche. Students can move on to John Marshall Enterprise Middle with a C-minus and then John Marshall Enterprise High. Home of the Bears, the school has a C-plus grade and offers athletics, clubs and activities, including student council and the Finance Academy. Miller says many families move to the area and apply for their children to attend B-plus-rated Belle Isle Enterprise Middle School. Considered the No. 3 standout middle school in the OKC area, Belle Isle offers a private school-like environment. For those interested in private education, OKC Heartland Montessori, Messiah Lutheran School and Westminster School are nearby.

The green space at the neighborhood’s heart, Smitty Park, is named in honor of beloved local resident and youth sports coach, Bronnell “Smitty” Smith. It features a picnic pavilion, playground and baseball field. For more wide-open space, folks can hop on Interstate 44 for a quick ride to the historic Will Rogers Park, where visitors can stroll through the beautiful grounds to enjoy colorful blooms, tranquil ponds, and lush native trees. “Will Rogers has the botanical garden and ducks you can feed. We used to take our kids there all the time,” Miller reminisces. The park is also where residents can play tennis or disc golf and swim laps in an outdoor pool.

Getting anywhere in the city is easy from Community 2000. “The proximity to that portion of I-44 can’t be beat. You can literally get anywhere in the metro area in 20 -30 minutes,” Miller says. Downtown OKC is just over 4 miles away, and it’s about an 11-mile drive south to Will Rogers World Airport. For those without cars, residents can bike or use the neighborhood’s many sidewalk-lined streets to reach EMBARK bus stops on May Avenue.
