Updated homes with urban core convenience
Crestwood is part of the outer band of Oklahoma City urban core neighborhoods that sprang up in the early 20th century. Jim Miller, who lived in the nearby Cleveland neighborhood for more than 40 years and is now a Realtor with Keller Williams Elite, says that the two best things about this area are its atmosphere and location. “The communities that people refer to as the core neighborhoods of Oklahoma City, which include Linwood and Crestwood, all the ‘woods,’ really, were really transformed and updated beginning about 30 years ago,” he says, adding that the “remodeling treatment” the homes received didn’t take away from their historic charm. And less than 5 miles northwest of downtown OKC, Crestwood is in what he calls a “great, central location,” too. Verity Real Estate Realtor Jenna Laird, who has nearly five years of local experience, agrees that location is a large part of its appeal. “Anything near Northwest 23rd is going to be desirable. This area is close to a ton of really cool nightlife and restaurants,” she says.
Uptown 23rd
There’s a Walmart Neighborhood Market on Northwest 23rd Street within a mile of most homes. The fast-growing business, dining and entertainment corridor, Uptown 23rd District, spans the 2-mile stretch of Northwest 23rd Street between North Pennsylvania Avenue, a block east of Walmart, to North Broadway Avenue. “23rd is a very, very popular street in Oklahoma City. It’s one of the primary destinations for people who are looking for somewhere to go and something to do,” says Laird, adding that the area is known for its locally owned eateries, in particular. It’s also home to the historic Tower Theatre, which was built in 1937 as one of the city’s original movie houses and remains a popular venue for live music and movies today. The Paseo Arts District, OKC’s oldest arts district, is nearby, too, just north of Uptown 23rd.
Charming architecture, competitive prices
Development in Crestwood started in the early 1920s; a hundred years later, the area retains its 20th-century charm. Many of the Tudor Revival-style cottages, Craftsman bungalows and Spanish Eclectic-style homes built between the ‘20s and ‘40s are still standing, set back from the street by wide, manicured front lawns and shaded by tall trees. Unlike neighborhoods on the outskirts of the city, which sprang up in the late 20th and early 21st centuries, Crestwood eschews the cookie-cutter aesthetic. “The homes in Crestwood are unique and fun, and they have so much character. Many of them still have original features, like hardwood floors and beautiful faux fireplaces,” says ERA Courtyard Real Estate Realtor Jennifer Miracle-Hodge. Prices here start at around $150,000 and can climb as high as $375,000. “Crestwood is close to all the trendy areas and has all the character of those areas but offers more affordable home prices. Everything I’ve sold in Crestwood has sold almost immediately,” Miracle-Hodge says.
Oklahoma City Public Schools
Kids here are served by schools in the Oklahoma City Public Schools system. Many go to Cleveland Elementary between preschool and fourth grade, then continue to Taft Middle and Northwest Classen High for fifth through 12th. Both Cleveland and Northwest Classen earned C grades from Niche in 2024; Taft earned a C-minus. Miller says that Cleveland is one of the most highly sought-after elementary schools in the city. “People that live around here or are trying to live around here, they know about Cleveland,” he says, adding that many families will urge their kids to apply to charter schools in the OKCPS district for middle and high school. “Probably half the charter schools in OKC are within five miles of this area. It’s an excellent place for charter schools that are highly rated.”
Nearby neighborhood playgrounds
The playgrounds at Wayman’s and Denniston Parks are both within a mile of most homes, in the nearby Linwood Place and Denniston Park communities. Both playgrounds have everything from classic climbing structures and slides to swings, with benches and picnic tables nearby.
Surrounded by connecting roads
Interstates 44 and 235 are both within 3 miles of Crestwood, running north-south through the city. Northwest 23rd Street, a bustling main thoroughfare and popular entertainment district, borders the neighborhood to the north. The 4.5-mile drive southeast to downtown takes about 13 minutes from here, depending on traffic. For those who prefer to hop on an OKC EMBARK bus, there are stops on Northwest 16th and 23rd Streets within half a mile of most homes.
