Drakestone-Somerset

Large French Country-style builds
Directly west of the desirable Nichols Hills neighborhood, Drakestone-Somerset has seen home prices outpace the city average over the last few years. Developers have helped drive this drastic increase, renovating the smaller original homes within the neighborhood or tearing them down and rebuilding altogether. The southwest corner of the neighborhood has high-end condos that can sell between $700,000 and $1 million, but most homes in the neighborhood are large single-family houses. The new French Country-style builds often top 5,000 square feet and go between $1 million and $3 million.Recreation at Lake Hefner
Guilchester Park lies in the middle of the neighborhood between Guilford Lane and Dorchester Drive, a basic park with a bench and a small lending library among mature trees. But Drakestone-Somerset residents more often head to Lake Hefner for recreation. “The options are basically endless,” says Realtor Kristina Moosavi, with Re/Max Lifestyle. “You can sail, hang out at the beach, fish, bike along the trails, and there’s even a golf course.” While swimming in the lake is prohibited, the parks along the shore are popular, including Stars and Stripes Park, which has an American flag-themed playground. In addition to the public course at Lake Hefner Golf Club, golfers can tee off at the private Oklahoma City Golf and Country Club, just southeast of the neighborhood.Convenient shopping and dining along May Avenue
Drakestone-Somerset residents have convenient shopping and dining along May Avenue on the west end of the neighborhood. Just half a mile south, Ted’s Cafe Escondido is one of the OKC area’s favorite chains for traditional Mexican eats. But locals and nonlocals agree on Redrock Canyon, a lakefront restaurant a mile and a half from the neighborhood. “Redrock Canyon is a pretty popular restaurant even for out-of-towners,” Moosavi says. “They have all kinds of food. It’s a great place to go if you want lots of options.” Homeland and Uptown Grocery each offer nearby options for groceries just off May Avenue. For common retail options like Apple, Foot Locker and JCPenney, Penn Square Mall is 3 miles away.
Cheering on the Thunder
Many events around Drakestone-Somerset are centered on Lake Hefner, including sailing races held by the Oklahoma City Boat Club and movies on the water. But locals can also head downtown for a night out, often enjoying one of the city’s sports teams. The NBA’s Oklahoma City Thunder plays at Paycom Arena, while the minor league Oklahoma City Baseball Club calls Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark home.Oklahoma City Public Schools education
Part of the Oklahoma City Public Schools district, Drakestone-Somerset sends its kids to either Ridgeview Elementary, given a C-plus grade by Niche, or Nichols Hills Elementary, which receives a C. Students will then often attend John Marshall Middle School, although the nearby Belle Isle Enterprise Middle School is open for application and was graded a B-plus. John Marshall High School, given a C-plus, offers special programs such as the Finance Academy, which allows students to pursue internships with organizations such as the Federal Reserve.
