Will Rogers Park serves as the centerpiece for this small community
Situated between Grand Boulevard and Portland Avenue in northwestern Oklahoma City, Grand Portland is not as big as its name suggests. It encompasses just 300 homes across roughly a dozen residential blocks, but this enclave is grand for another reason: its unique convenience. Home to the expansive Will Rogers Park and bordered by Interstate 44, residents have an express ticket downtown about 10 minutes away. “It’s a tiny sleeve of a neighborhood, with about six houses on each street. But you really couldn’t be in a better location in terms of highway access and proximity to the park, so that’s why people like it so much,” says Realtor Lola Adeyemi with Keller Williams Realty Elite who has nearly a decade’s worth of experience selling homes in the city. Grand Portland’s price is another draw; with the median home listing at $135,000, this northwest OKC neighborhood is a bargain for its location.
Minimal Traditional brick-and-wood houses from the 1940s
Tucked right off major thoroughfares, homes sit close together on flat, narrow streets with carports and moderate setbacks for city living. Small but neat lawns and a handful of trees lend this neighborhood a more residential feel, as do the familiar 1940s Minimal Traditional-style homes with brick-and-wood siding. Most are single-story, two- or three-bedroom houses with Cape Cod or ranch-style layouts, with distinguishing features like columned front porches and low-pitched roofs. Prices range from just under $100,000 to over $200,000, with the median falling around the $135,000 mark. “It’s a little bit lower than the median for the city but similar to the other neighborhoods around here,” Adeyemi says. She adds that, since it’s a small neighborhood, inventory tends to be low and houses sell in less than 40 days on average.

Will Rogers Gardens offers plenty of tennis courts for locals to enjoy.
Sprawling gardens and top-notch sports facilities
Will Rogers Park spans over 162 acres of Grand Portland’s northern half and is one of the biggest draws to the neighborhood; while folks travel to the park from all over the city, residents are privileged to have it right in their backyards. The park is popular for its sports facilities, including the rugby pitch where the Crusaders Rugby Football Club plays and the expansive OKC Tennis Center, which has indoor and outdoor courts and hosts more than 60 annual tournaments. However, not all who enjoy the park are purely sports enthusiasts. The Will Rogers Gardens is famous for its serene atmosphere and scenic pathways winding through intricately maintained greenery, making it a go-to spot for photo ops or everyday relaxation. After working up a sweat in the summer heat, residents can cool off in the park’s aquatic center, which features water slides and splash zones.
Kings Smoked Meat is a go-to spot for meat lovers in Grand Portland.
Diverse dining with OKC-famous barbecue
A sparse collection of restaurants and shops can be found nearby, with fast food chains along the Interstate. However, a handful of local digs also showcase Grand Portland’s diversity with worldwide flavors, from taco trucks to international markets. And, of course, no OKC neighborhood is complete without some good old-fashioned Southwestern barbecue nearby — here, folks frequent King’s Custom Smoked Meats, a rustic counter-service eatery known for its heaping trays loaded with brisket and okra. Those who’d rather stay in for dinner can visit one of the three stores just beyond the neighborhood for groceries. WinCo Foods is the closest, just a mile north across Route 66, but Crest Foods and Walmart Neighborhood Market are also conveniently located just a few miles down 23rd Street.
Two highways give residents of Grand Portland an express ticket around OKC.
Two highways give residents an express ticket around OKC
With Route 66 and Interstate 44 less than a mile from most homes, Grand Portland offers easy access to OKC’s shopping, dining and entertainment. “You’re about 10 minutes away from everything here unless you’re going to Moore or Edmond, but even those are only 30 minutes away,” Adeyemi says, adding that residents enjoy their proximity to downtown’s dining districts less than 6 miles away. Will Rogers Airport is roughly 20 minutes south along the Interstate, and Embark bus stops along Portland Avenue provide even more options for getting around.
