On the northwest side of Oklahoma City, Knights Lake is a primarily residential neighborhood right next to the Wiley Post Airport. Residents have to listen to the constant air traffic, but the area has an affordable cost of living and is close to a plethora of shopping and dining opportunities that keep people active and comfortable.
Single-family homes and townhouses
Properties in Knights Lake are mostly single-family homes or townhouses lined along neighborhood streets with their own lawn and driveway. “Most of the houses are all about the same size. There are a lot of two and three-bedroom houses,” says Real Estate Agent Jim Miller with Keller Williams, who is a lifelong resident of Oklahoma City and has almost 10 years of experience in real estate. The average home price for the area is $260,000. Craftsman homes with slanted roofs and other traditional two-story houses cost anywhere between $225,000 and $330,000. There are also brick and brightly colored ranch-style homes for a similar price and square footage. Modern prairie-style townhouses and condos are roughly $200,000 and clumped together in their own pocket subdivision.
With minimal sidewalks, Knights Lake features wide roads for walking and biking.

Shops and restaurants along Northwest Expressway
While the neighborhood itself doesn’t have much in terms of retail, Knights Lake is only 1.5 miles from a large commercial space along Oklahoma State Highway 3. “Up and down the Northwest Expressway, there’s a bunch of different restaurants. There are also a few clubs that are great to visit on the weekend,” Miller says. Rockwell Plaza Shopping Center has name-brand stores like Target, PetSmart, Ross and TJ Maxx for any essentials residents might need. There are also several food chains in the area, including Chili’s, Schlotzsky’s, Louie’s Grill & Bar and more. On the other side of the Northwest Expressway, Nabati Vegan Kitchen serves Mediterranean food like shawarma and falafel. Further east, people can grab breakfast at Eggceptional Café. Their omelettes and breakfast burritos come with homemade salsa. Billy Sims BBQ is close by and serves savory smoked meat platters. Those who would rather make a home-cooked meal can head to the Aldi’s in the area for groceries.
Residents of Knights Lake enjoy playing golf with the view of Lake Hefner.
Lakefront parks and recreation
Directly in the neighborhood, residents can go fishing along Knights Lake. However, people can also travel to Lake Hefner for more recreational opportunities. Lakeshore Park is 2.4 miles away and has a few walking paths, plus the Prairie Dog Point Sports Complex for soccer. On the other side of the lake, Stars and Stripes Park has a patriotic-themed playground for little ones. There are also paved walking and biking paths and a baseball field.
Active schools in Putnam City school district
Families living in the area can send their children to Putnam City Public Schools. Tulakes Elementary School may have a C grade on Niche, but it makes up for it with its English Language Learner (ELL) classes that help bilingual students. Cooper Middle School maintains a C-plus Niche grade and offers 20 student clubs and sports. From there, students can attend Putnam City High School. With its B-minus Niche grade, over 20 AP-level classes and Air Force JROTC program, P.C. helps its students thrive.
Kenneth Cooper Middle School is home to just over 600 students.

Airports and highways in Oklahoma City
With the close proximity to the Wiley Post Airport, Knights Lake residents have easy access to domestic flights when traveling. Otherwise, most residents rely on their own vehicles to get around for their day-to-day routine. The Oklahoma State Highway 3, also known as the Northwest Expressway, goes right by the neighborhood, making it easy for commuters to hop on and get where they need to go. As for public transportation, there are bus stops located all along West Wilshire Boulevard and Lyrewood Lane – though it’s not a main form of transportation. In an emergency, Integris Medical Center is only 3 miles away.
