Convenient location, competitive home prices
Moving out from Oklahoma City’s urban core, the scenery transforms from high-rise apartment and condo buildings to rows of more traditionally suburban single-family homes, and the Metro Park neighborhood straddles the line where that transformation occurs. “It’s a fun and walkable area, where it feels much more like a metro than other neighborhoods in the city,” says Verity Real Estate’s Jenna Laird, a Realtor with nearly 20 years of experience working with clients in OKC. She adds that its urban atmosphere is a large part of its appeal, as are the housing options. “There are some homes that have been renovated and refurbished, some that have been totally torn down and replaced with really modern, much larger houses, some rentals, some owner-occupied. It’s definitely more of a mix than you’ll find in other neighborhoods, whether that’s closer or farther from downtown.” Prices here are competitive, too; the median hovers at around $123,000, well below the median for the city, which sits closer to the $300,000 mark.
Never a dull moment
At the corner of North Virginia Avenue and Northwest Eighth Street, neighborhood kids can burn off their energy on the sunny playground at Highley Park. Locals can head across the river to ride the Ferris wheel in the Wheeler District. Cycling enthusiasts descend on the hip, new-urbanist-style development on Tuesday nights between the spring and fall for the Wheeler Criterium cycling festival. There’s also a weekly farmers market in the summer months. Scissortail Park isn’t far from home, either, on the neighborhood’s side of the river a little over 2 miles east. Laird says the sprawling park is a local favorite spot for food trucks, outdoor concerts and walking trails. Just a few blocks east of home, Beer City Music Hall and Civic Center Music Hall offer everything from visiting author lectures and Broadway shows to concerts in all kinds of genres.

Iron Works District
Popular downtown dining districts, like Deep Deuce and Bricktown, are less than 3 miles east of home. But it’s not necessary to venture even that far for a brewski or a bite to eat. Anthem Brewing, Lively Beerworks and Angry Scotsman taprooms are all less than 2 miles from most homes, clustered around Reno Avenue. The up-and-coming area, known as the Iron Works District, in the neighborhood’s southeastern corner is also home to eateries offering everything from onion-fried hamburgers, like at Sun Cattle Co., to gyros, like at Sweis Greek Café. And for fresh produce and locally sourced dairy and meat products, as well as handmade goods and scratch-made bakery items, there’s Farmers Public Market. The market has been an OKC staple since 1928; today, it’s open on Saturday mornings year-round. “This is one of the few areas in the city where you don’t have to shop for the week because you don’t necessarily have to drive to the store. There are a bunch of little convenience-type stores, even the farmers market, where you can pop in and grab ingredients for one meal at a time, instead,” says Laird.
1920s to 2020s builds
Small Craftsman-style bungalows and cottages with original hardwood flooring and cabinetry start at $75,000 while sleek new builds with modern finishes can go for as much as $250,000. “The original homes were built between about 1910 and 1925,” says Laird, adding that the neighborhood’s oldest homes tend to fall on the low end of the price spectrum. “It’s in the very beginning stages of being revitalized,” she says. “There’s some new construction, some remodeling happening, some homes that still need rehabbing, it’s definitely a mix, which presents a good opportunity for all kinds of buyers.”
