Northeast OKC neighborhood near shopping and entertainment

Although other nearby neighborhoods have seen more development, Northeast Park offers cost efficient homes in a growing area. The neighborhood is close to the emerging Innovation District and Adventure District, placing residents within a stone’s throw of shops, restaurants and entertainment. It’s a “real up-and-coming area,” according to Jenna Harper, a Realtor with Sotheby’s International Realty. Harper says the neighborhood has been “a little rundown and half-forgotten," but surrounding development is bringing it back to life. Denyvetta Davis, President of the Northeast Oklahoma City Neighborhood Coalition, echoes the sentiment. “The new developments are just a start. We want safe, healthy and flourishing neighborhoods,” Davis says.

Traditional bungalows and ranch-style houses

Early to mid-20th-century bungalows and ranch-style homes built in the ’40s and ’50s dot the neighborhood, as well as the occasional new build. “It hasn’t seen as much development, but development is definitely around it, like the Innovation District and the Adventure District," says DeAndre Martin, a staff member with Northeast Oklahoma City Renaissance, a community development nonprofit. "I think in probably the next five to 10 years we’ll see a lot more development.” Empty lots can range from $15,000 to $100,000, depending on size and location. Move-in ready homes with three or four bedrooms can range from $100,000 to $200,000. Houses with extensive renovations or rare, new traditional-style builds can cost between $145,000 to $215,000.

Excitement awaits in the Adventure District

The community is only 2 miles away from the burgeoning Adventure District, which has the Oklahoma City Zoo, Remington Park racetrack and casino, and museums like the Science Museum and the National Cowboy Hall of Fame. It’s also where the softball and canoe slalom competitions for the 2028 Olympics will be held. Lincoln Park Golf Course borders the Adventure District and has two championship courses. Although the Northeast Park Community Center inside the neighborhood is currently closed, it is slated for $2 million in upgrades over the next five years. In light of the closure, many residents flock to the Willa D. Johnson Recreation Center, less than 3 miles south. The rec center has fitness equipment, a family aquatic center and regular events, classes and workshops. Closer to home, Phillips Park at the southern edge of the neighborhood has a playground and basketball courts, while E.W. Perry Park to the north has paved walking trails and a playground.

Deep-fried French toast and Hennessy-spiked mimosas at Scrambl'd

The popular Ice Events Center and Grill bills itself as "OKC's home for food, drinks, and Black Culture." "They do poetry nights on Wednesdays and a bunch of people show out for it," Martin says. Scrambl’d is an inventive brunch spot dubbed one of the Best New Restaurants in OKC in 2023 by 405 Magazine for its deep-fried French toast and Hennessy-spiked mimosas. Groceries are only a mile away at Homeland. Northeast 23rd Street is seeing increasing growth thanks to the EastPoint development. RestoreOKC founded The Market at EastPoint, an eatery and grocery store with produce grown at RestoreOKC’s urban farm. The farm also provides job training and management skills as part of RestoreOKC’s workforce development program.
