Country vibes and city convenience in northern OKC

Ravenswood balances country living and convenience on the north side of Oklahoma City. The neighborhood of less than 150 homes is a popular choice among buyers looking for easy access to city amenities while maintaining a quiet, secluded feel in a natural setting. Homes rarely go up for sale here — on average, homes sell after five days on the market compared to the national average of 44 days. “It’s in a really great location on the east side of town, where there’s a lot of revitalization happening right now,” says Darian Woolbright, a Realtor with Keller Williams Elite. Although it’s largely residential, the neighborhood isn't far from some of OKC’s best entertainment, restaurants and retail, with easy access to the Adventure District, shopping at Penn Square Mall and Belle Isle Station, and dining on 63rd Street.

Ranch-style homes with a "classic, midcentury feel"

Ranch-style homes built in the late 1940s to mid-1950s are spread out along gridded streets. Homes typically measure 1,200 square feet to 1,800 square feet with three bedrooms, and brick and wood exteriors are common. Many have attached single- or two-car garages, while some still have their original aluminum carports. “They have a nice, classic, midcentury feel to them,” Woolbright says. Large, green lots with established trees are the hallmark of the neighborhood. Prices range from $100,000 to $250,000, depending on whether the houses are fixer-uppers or remodeled homes.

Shopping at Penn Square Mall and Belle Isle Station nearby

Retail and restaurants are less than 3 miles away on 63rd Street. A few miles past the Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods are Penn Square Mall and Belle Isle Station, two of OKC’s premier shopping destinations. One of the area's newer dining options is Tequila Chulos, a Mexican restaurant and tequila bar. Kat’s Tavern is a go-to spot for karaoke and laid-back vibes. Hank’s is just outside the neighborhood and dishes out New Orleans and Memphis-style food, including smoked meats, stuffed turkey legs and homemade sauces. About 3 miles north off of the Broadway Extension is Flix Brewhouse, a movie theater and brewpub rolled into one, serving beer brewed by Flix’s OKC head brewer. There’s also Chicken N Pickle with pickleball courts, free yard games and indoor and outdoor dining spaces.

Entertainment galore in the Adventure District

The city's Adventure District is less than 3 miles from Ravenswood, and includes the OKC Zoo and Remington Park horseracing track and casino. The National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum is filled with galleries and exhibitions of Western art, history and culture. Hands-on exploration and experimentation make Science Museum Oklahoma a popular family destination. One of the lesser-known attractions is the American Pigeon Museum and Library, a free museum dedicated to the history and heritage of domestic pigeons. Exhibits and live birds are part of the museum experience, but a highlight is a pigeon named Slappy who gives out high-fives to visitors.

Dolphin Wharton Park and the Santa Fe Family Life Center are about a mile away from the neighborhood. The park features walking trails, a playground, a pavilion and picnic tables. Santa Fe Family Life Center is the largest nonprofit sports complex in greater OKC that is focused on inclusive programs for children, veterans, and individuals with disabilities.

Hands-on learning at Millwood Public Schools

The Millwood Public Schools district serves the area. Millwood Elementary Learning Academy receives a D-plus from Niche, while the Millwood Arts Academy middle school receives a C-minus. Millwood High School also receives a C-minus. The district has STEM and robotics programming for students in grades 3-12, and kids in grades 3-8 participate in monthly hands-on labs through a partnership with Girl Scouts of Oklahoma. The district partners with colleges, universities and local businesses to foster college and career readiness.

The arts are an important part of the district’s curriculum. Middle and high school students can join the Millwood Marching Band, which has a history of winning state, national and international competitions. Most recently, the high school choir performed alongside J. Cole and Lil Durk during their two-night concert at the Paycom Center. In addition, Millwood district voters approved a nearly $8.3 million bond issue in 2023 to remodel the south campus to accommodate kids in pre-K through grade 4.
