Roberts-Crest’s midcentury aesthetic

As with much of northwest Oklahoma City, Roberts-Crest still has a midcentury feel. Along with its retro aesthetic, accessibility to major highways and proximity to Lake Hefner help it stand out to homeowners new and old. While the southern half of the neighborhood leans commercial, locals love the character of the residential areas. “It’s a really popular area,” says Carter Cooper, a Realtor Associate at McGraw Commercial Properties. “It’s kind of funny because you still have a lot of people there who have lived there for 40 or 50 years. But as they move out, it’s really become popular with the younger kids or millennials.”

Ranch-style homes and luxury condos at Founders Tower

Homebuyers in Roberts-Crest can find condos and single-family homes. Most of the ranch-style houses that fill out the northwest section were built between the late 1940s and the early ’60s, though most have been renovated or updated. These homes often have large front lawns and fenced-in backyards, generally selling for $300,000 to $400,000. Meanwhile, condos within the neighborhood include one of Oklahoma City’s most iconic buildings: Founders Tower, a prime example of Populuxe architecture. With its cylindrical shape and concrete balconies, the building originally served as headquarters for the United Founders Life Insurance Corporation before being converted into condos in the 1980s. It is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places. “The very top of Founders Tower used to be a restaurant called the Eagles’ Nest,” Cooper says. “The top turned around, so as you sat there and ate you would twist around and get a different view all around the city. The last owner took that equipment out, so it doesn’t turn anymore, but the building has been turned into some really nice luxury condos.” Along with a pair of other complexes in the neighborhood, condos can go from $100,000 to $500,000.
