Home to the Wheeler Ferris Wheel
Named for one of the oldest branches of the Rotary Club in the nation, Rotary Park rests just minutes from Oklahoma City’s urban core. In the warmer months, the best view of the neighborhood is from a seat on the iconic Wheeler Ferris Wheel. Prior to traveling to its new home on the south bank of the Oklahoma River, the Ferris Wheel sat on the Santa Monica Pier, making appearances in blockbusters and winning the title “World’s Coolest Ferris Wheel.” Today, nearly 60,000 new LED bulbs sparkle from the 100-foot wheel, drawing residents from around the city to an area that also hosts concerts, charity walks and various festivals. “The Wheeler District is a pretty new development,” says Jenna Laird, of Rotary Park’s shiny new mixed-use enclave. “It’s a little bit of a different design than we’re used to seeing in Oklahoma, which is a lot of fun. In the residential section, the houses have more of that row-house vibe. There are a lot of tall, skinny, very brightly colored houses right next to each other, like the ones in Full House,” she says.

Craftsmans, bungalows and new builds, oh my
Many of Rotary Park’s newer homes are clustered at the east end of the neighborhood, along the banks of the Oklahoma River. As the Ferris wheel steadily climbs to the top of its loop, residents can peer out over groups of early 20th-century Craftsman and bungalow-style homes. These make “great starter homes or even investment properties,” says Cristy Gramajo, a Realtor with eXp Realty. She adds that home prices here vary widely, anywhere from under $100,000 for a minimally updated 1920s bungalow to more than $1 million for a brand-new row house-style home near the Wheeler Ferris Wheel. “The houses there are significantly higher in price than the houses in the rest of the neighborhood and in the surrounding areas. But that’s because they have these finishes, and it’s this funky little space all to itself. It’s like you’re Dorothy stepping through the door to Oz, there’s all this color and brightness all of a sudden,” says Laird.

Sandwiched between the Wheeler District and Stockyards City
Rotary Park’s central location is one of its main draws. Among other amenities, the rapidly developing Wheeler District hosts a weekly local farmers market. Locals can stop by every Friday for a curated selection of artisan and handmade goods, fresh local produce, bakery items and pantry staples. Historic Stockyards City sits immediately west of the neighborhood, where iconic archways welcome residents to the area, home to the best Western-themed retail OKC has to offer. Live, public auctions still take place every Monday and Tuesday at the world’s largest feeder and stocker cattle market. Stockyards is also home to Cattlemen’s Steakhouse, the oldest continually operating restaurant in the city. The eatery got its start in 1910 feeding cowboys, ranchers and cattle haulers. Presidents and movie stars, from Ronald Reagan and George H. W. Bush to John Wayne and Reba McEntire have even stopped in for a bite. Just 5 miles northeast across the river, residents have easy access to myriad shopping, dining and entertainment options in Downtown OKC, too. Enjoy the nightlife in Bricktown or the galleries and museums in the Arts District, minutes away.

South Rotary Park
The Wheeler Ferris Wheel isn't the only outdoor attraction nearby. At the center of the neighborhood, South Rotary Park has been a popular place for residents to enjoy the outdoors since it was created by the OKC Rotary Club over 100 years ago. The park’s 44 acres of green space, including a baseball field, basketball goals, a tennis court and a playground, are within a quarter mile of most homes in the neighborhood.
