Living at the top of OKC
While not the tallest point in Oklahoma City, or OKC to locals, Top of the Town feels like it, perched on the crest of a hill. Only 3 miles from downtown OKC and nestled between busy motorways, Top of the Town is accessible to downtown and other surrounding areas. When paired with the neighborhood’s affordability, Top of the Town is the top place to live.

Ranch and bungalows on sloping lawns
Houses in Top of the Town are older ranch and bungalows sporting siding and carports on properties averaging around 7,000 square feet. “It’s a lovely hilltop area with tiny houses that look like your grandma just moved out,” says Realtor Christy Hawkins with Keller Williams Green Meadow. “But not many homes are updated or renovated.” The neighborhood lacks sidewalks, but residents often see neighbors sitting on their front stoops or puttering about on gently sloping front lawns on nice days. Homes here range from $75,000 to $125,000, with the median hovering around the $100,000 mark. Prices are below the average for the city, making it a very affordable option so close to the downtown area.

Local El Salvadorian cuisine and downtown boutiques
On the neighborhood’s side of the river, residents can find local restaurants, like El Pulgarcito Pupuseria y Antojitos. This El Salvadorian restaurant offers the country’s national dish—pupusas—stuffed with meat, cheese and vegetables. The Old Paris Flea Market has served the area for over 44 years, operating on the weekends and bringing local vendors to residents. The First Americans Museum honors the native cultures and histories from the state and region with exhibits and events. Just over the river in downtown OKC, locals can find plenty of shops, like local boutiques like Painted Door and Jumpin’ Jackalope Mercantile. Locals will have to travel outside the neighborhood for grocery shopping, but its centralized location keeps residents a short distance from popular chains. A Walmart Supercenter is only 4 miles away along I-40. About 4 miles southwest, there’s a Walmart Neighborhood Market. Across the river in Capitol View, Homeland is over 5 miles away.

Riverside trails and golf courses
Top ‘O’ Town Park is just a quarter mile from most homes, so many residents walk there for the playground and basketball court. Just east of the neighborhood is Trosper Park, which is home to a golf course and archery range, as well as trails for walking and horseback riding. There’s even a BMX course for the most dauntless residents. The Oklahoma River is a 7-mile stretch of the greater North Canadian River, where visitors can boat, kayak and fish with proper licensing. Trails and paved pathways line the banks for walking, jogging and cycling. Riversport Adventures brings classes and leagues to the river to get people outside and on the water.
Fourth of July along the river
Because Top of the Town is so close to the river, residents can attend riverside events. The Stars and Stripes River Festival celebrates the Fourth of July with regattas and river races, musical performances and fireworks shows. The Oklahoma Regatta Festival showcases the Oklahoma City University rowing team and other local and out-of-town leagues. In the winter, locals can get in the holiday spirit at the Devon Ice Rink, a 5,000-square-foot outdoor skating rink.

Just miles from downtown and hospitals
While many residents have cars, the 011 bus stops along South High Avenue. I-35, also called Monarch Highway, runs along the neighborhood’s eastern border and is lined with restaurants and fast food chains, like Taco Bell and McDonald’s. It also connects the community to downtown OKC. INTEGRIS Health Southwest Medical Center is the nearest hospital, only 3.6 miles away, but the University of Oklahoma Medical Center is only 4 miles from Top of the Town. Stillwater Central Railroad, a freight line, runs through the northern stretch of the neighborhood.
