Traditions-Ripple Creek
Edmond’s southern suburbs
Midcentury modern ranch-style homes with brick facades are common in Ripple Creek. Sidewalks and tight lawns are decorated with basketball nets in the driveway and two-car garages. Many houses possess unique attributes like colorful shutters and Tudor-inspired beams. Dallas architecture is popular in the gated community of Oakmond, located off NW 150th Street. These homes flaunt a minimum of four bedrooms and 3,000 square feet. The Traditions subdivision is largely known for its contemporary architecture, drawing from various styles like international and Victorian. Such homes are also spread out across the greater region. Though most properties range between $200,000 and $450,000, newer and custom builds can range from $700,000 to more than $1 million.Arts and athletics at Edmond Public Schools
Local students can attend Edmond Public Schools, which has an A-plus rating on Niche and employs over 3,000 residents in Edmond. Charles Haskell Elementary School receives an A-minus on Niche and serves the broader Traditions-Ripple Creek area. Summit Middle School places an emphasis on athletics and offers a highly active music program, while Santa Fe High School has a competitive marching band, show choir and athletic program. Each school receives an A on Niche, respectively. A handful of private, spiritual institutions are also offered within a few miles of residential subdivisions.Ice skating under the lights
Bristol Park is a local homeowners association, but it’s also a park with a pool where community meetings are held. Less than a mile north, Centennial Park offers an acre of green space with a playground and swings. Guardians should be wary of the residential street, Whispering Creek Drive, just a few feet from the play area. The HIVE Sports Complex provides indoor basketball courts and team opportunities. In the winter, “the lights festival and ice-skating rink are pretty busy,” Stevens explains. Mitch Park, further north, hosts an annual lights festival called “Luminance,” and a seasonal outdoor ice-skating rink. The Arctic Edge Ice Arena, however, is much closer to the communities of Traditions, Ripple Creek and Oakmond.Historic Downtown Edmond
More than a century after the founding of Downtown Edmond, the area still offers more than 75 shops and an array of community events. “We have wonderful locals working to maintain the historical integrity of the town,” says Amy Stevens, director of the Edmond History Museum. From fresh produce to vintage boutiques and an ice cream shop, the streets of Downtown Edmond offer a classic feel to the otherwise highly developed area. Over 140 artists, musicians and food vendors gather for the summer arts festival. Independence Day in Edmond looks like the annual pie-eating contest and parade. And New Year’s celebrations are frequented at Frenzy Brewing Company, but live music is performed there throughout the year.A little bit of everything south of the downtown scene
Quail Springs Mall is located 3 miles south of the neighborhood, off John Kilpatrick Turnpike. The mall’s 95 stores are accompanied by an AMC movie theater. A Walmart Supercenter and Sam’s Club are just across the street, but Costco and Natural Grocers can be found south off N Western Avenue. Residents can grab a coffee to-go or simply lounge at StellaNova Coffee. Super Target, Marshalls and Home Depot are among a variety of commercial retail shops along N Pennsylvania Avenue. Further east, Route 77 is a thoroughfare with plenty of chain restaurants. But small businesses like Gabriella’s Italian Grill & Pizzeria help create a small-town atmosphere.Route 77 to Oklahoma City
Citylink Edmond is a bus route traveling to various administration buildings and hubs, but most folks in the city of Edmond are car-dependent. Route 77, S Broadway, travels north into Edmonton and around 12 miles south into Oklahoma City. N Santa Fe Avenue branches into Route 77, vertically dividing the neighborhoods of Brenton Hills and Ripple Creek. John Kilpatrick Turnpike is a toll road extending from Witcher to the Will Rogers World Airport 23 miles southwest. Residents can rely on W 15th Street for access to Mercy Westbrook Hospital or Summit Medical Center.
