Though it's a quiet community of lovely homes in a sought-after school district and a super-convenient location, Westbury South, in western metro Oklahoma City, isn't a real estate cliche. It's a lovely, well-established neighborhood that folks are proud to call home. "I chose to live there because the neighborhood is just beautiful," says Westbury South resident and broker-owner of Regal House & Associates Carlisa Hudspeth. "There are trees everywhere, the lawns are manicured, and the homes have large lots and are well-built. Also, my neighbors are amazing. They're very helpful and watch out for each other."
In Westbury South, you'll find a mix of styles and ages of homes, from Traditional and ranch styles built in the mid-1970s to newly-built modern Traditional or Contemporary-style homes. "That's the other thing that's neat about the neighborhood," Hudspeth says. "It's eclectic. There are all different styles. Many homes are older, so they're unique, not cookie-cutter." Westbury South homes sit on good-sized lots and feature interiors ranging from 1,200 to 2,800 square feet with three to five bedrooms. Homebuyers can expect to pay between $185,000 to $400,000, depending on the home's size and condition. "Westbury South homes sell well. It's a sought-after neighborhood because it has been there a long time, and people take care of their homes," Hudspeth adds. "Also, the school district is Mustang, which is a good district."
Speaking of Mustang Public Schools, Westbury South children in pre-kindergarten through fourth grade attend Mustang Valley Elementary, rated an A-minus by Niche, and Mustang North Middle for seventh and eighth grades. Teenage students spend ninth through 12th grades at Mustang High School, which GreatSchools rates a perfect 10 out of 10 for college readiness.
Westbury South's leafy, tree-lined streets are the perfect backdrop for an afternoon bike ride or an evening stroll, but when you crave more outdoor time, hop over to Lake Overholser Park, which lies about 4 miles north of the neighborhood. At the park, enjoy stunning views of the lake from the Lake Overholser Dam bridge or relax on one of the lakeside park benches. Let the kids run around the playground, walk the 2.2-mile trail around the lake or cast a line from the fishing pier.
Don't despair if the fish aren't biting at Lake Overholser because tucked away among the houses of Westbury South is a delicious surprise: Luigi's Bistro. Housed in a former golf course clubhouse, Luigi's is a popular spot where neighbors gather over tasty authentic Italian dishes, like fried calamari and chicken parmigiana. For those who prefer to venture a little farther afoot for a bite or sweet after-dinner treat, visit Braum's Ice Cream & Dairy Store, located just south of the neighborhood, where you can indulge in a cherry-topped hot fudge sundae or a double-scoop of mint-chocolate chip in a Braum's-baked sugar cone. If you prefer shopping over sherbet, head to OKC Outlets, which features over 80 big-name factory stores, like Coach and The North Face, and local specialty stores, including The Rustic Mare women's clothing boutique and Kicklahoma, a seller of exclusive sneakers.
