Tight-knit neighbors and nearby shops and services in South OKC
Western Hills is a well-established neighborhood in south central Oklahoma City known for its cost-effective homes and connected neighbors. The neighborhood is close to the growing Southwest 29th District, a 3-mile corridor that serves as the beating heart of OKC’s Hispanic and Latino communities. “People come here for the culture and the strong sense of community more than anything else,” says Eric Avalos, a real estate advisor at Avalos Garza Real Estate Team. Many of his clients are unwilling to look elsewhere. “They don’t want to look anywhere else because, here, the stores and businesses they want are close,” he says. “There are a lot of Latino businesses and restaurants around here that people love. If they move to another part of town, they won’t find the specific products or goods they’re looking for on a daily basis.”

Mexican food from Mazatlán to Oaxaca
Residents don’t have to go far for groceries, with a Walmart inside the neighborhood and specialty grocery stores like Feria Latina Supermarket nearby. Oklahoma City’s south side — sometimes called “Little Mexico” — is packed with authentic flavors. Crudoolandia serves up beach food from Mazatlán and offers dishes like ceviche and shrimp cocktails. Primarily a drive-thru establishment, Crudoolandia is known for its chuvi duvis, a tangy, spicy yet sweet cocktail made with chilled fruit and chamoy. La Oaxaquena Bakery is a staple for pastries, tres leches cake and conchas, a traditional Mexican sweet bread. There's also Chelino’s Mexican Restaurant and Elotes El Compa Chuy within a half-mile or less.

Ranch-style homes built in the 1950s
Ranch-style homes with brick or wood siding populate the neighborhood. Most homes were built between 1950 and 1960, with traditional or Craftsman features and a mix of two-car garages, carports and on-street parking. Despite its name, Western Hills is primarily flat with sparse landscaping and a smattering of trees. Homes rarely come on the market in this neighborhood of just over 200 residences; only five sales were reported between September 2023 and September 2024. Fixer-uppers can range from $125,000 to $150,000, while move-in ready homes can cost between $160,000 and $260,000, increasing in price with additional space, larger lots and renovations.
